Plausibility Check/AHC/WI: Chinese Burma

Was there ever a time, that, China could have conquered Burma? If so, what was it? What would a Chinese Burma look like? How long could China keep Burma?

The two occasions that come to mind are the Yuan and the Qing's attempt at conquering Burma. If they had succeeded, I think logistics would have failed against the rebellion not long later. Hanthawaddy/Pegu can easily take advantage of this situation and come to their own deal with China. The history of Hanthawaddy/Pegu seems illustrative of this. I think the end result is a solidly established Hanthawaddy kingdom and a new kingdom in Upper Burma which will fight both the Hanthawaddy state and the Chinese.

An interesting butterfly is if the British stumble upon this Burma, and the British conquest ends up dividing the country between the interior neo-Bamar state and the renewed Hanthawaddy state.

It has to be possible since Britain and Japan, which you would think are much less suited to extending their power into Southeast Asia, both managed to conquer Burma.

China tried to conquer Vietnam several times. That didn't turn out so well for them. And there isn't a chain of mountains along the Sino-Vietnamese border.

Both of which were very notable sea powers. Meanwhile, China spends many decades attempting to ban sea trade and even at points trying to ban people from living near the sea, which can't possibly be good for your naval tradition.
