Plausibility check: Affordable Cable and Satellite TV Act

Just as the title says, what would it have took for the FCC, or whomever with the authority to do so, to implement regulations to prevent cable and satellite providers from overcharging consumers with all those pesky hidden fees?

Price controls rarely make things better.

What to do is prevent monopolies in cities, for more competition

Less commsats and less of the space launch vehicles development.

What do you believe would be the best way to curb monopolization?
Google fiber is an example. Offering better streaming for less cost. Cities could also build free WiFi to further challenge cable and satellite. Competition is the only cure for the cartels to fall.

IOTL, which cities have already built their own WiFi?

Most of the monopolies are created by the city councils themselves limiting who can provide those services. This dated back to the dawn of Telephones, where each company would run their own lines. Consolidation before WWI gave the USA the AT&T monopoly in both local and long distance. JP Morgan had controlling interest in AT&T, and starting buying up every competing service he could. He didn't fight the the government setting rates, as all the profit was still rolling in
