Plausibility Check: A U.S. Supreme Court Intervention in a Different U.S. Presidential Election?

Starting from 1900 (to the present day), was it ever plausible for the U.S. Supreme Court to intervene and help decide a U.S. Presidential election other than the 2000 one if such an election was as close as 2000 was?

For the record, the reason that I'm asking this is that, even in 2000, only five U.S. Supreme Court Justices actually wanted to hear the Bush v. Gore case; indeed, the other Justices and many observers falsely believed back in 2000 that such an intervention would severely damage the credibility of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Anyway, any thoughts on this?

Also, though, one more thing:

There actually has to be a federal issue for the U.S. Supreme Court to even consider getting involved in a U.S. Presidential election dispute. In this regard, 2000 might have been unique in the sense that there was both an Article II issue and an Equal Protection issue (thanks to the U.S. Supreme Court being willing to extend its previous Equal Protection precedents and doctrine).
