Plausibility Check: A German-Russian partition of Austria-Hungary?

Would it have been plausible for Germany to ally with Russia rather than with Austria-Hungary starting from the early 1890s and then to have Germany and Russia try partitioning Austria-Hungary at an opportune moment (once Russia will become sufficiently developed and strong, that is)?

Any thoughts on this?

It was mentioned by Bismark successor as the only logical reason for a German Russian alliance.

I think it would demand AH to behave very in manner which we would categorise as borderline insane. A thing most people tend to think when we talk about AH being partitioned are that Germany and Russia leave a strong Hungary. I think that's unlikely. A strong Hungary was a benefit for Austria, but neither germany nor Russia would have any interest in it. So I think Germany will push the Romanian border to Tisza (except for Banat), create some kind of South Slavic state, give Italy Triest and Dalmatia (but keep Fiume to themselves), setting up Backa-Banat as some kind of Balkan Switzerland, include a greater Burgenland in Germany (likely includes Bradislava/Pressburg), give Slovakia independence (likely include Carpathian Ruthenia) and leave a small weak Hungary as a buffer state.

Completely agreed that a strong Hungary makes no sense for either Germany and Russia; plus, it might be problematic for the Hungarians to rule over so many ethnic minorities.

You may find this thread useful with arguments for, arguments against and ways it could go. I believe it's plausible.
