Plausability West does well in 1943 Stalin worse

Assume a smarter Nazi leader. and the Germans doing better in 1942-3, withdraw from Stalingrad and greater and scary success in 1943.

Could a diversionary attack by Anglo Americans on Western Europe have had good luck?

Western Allies were too weak IOTL due to lack of control of the air. ITTL, the Germans are even stronger due not losing 6th Army, and probably wiser call at Kursk.

Heh. I thought you wanted the west to do well. An invasion of normandy in '43 might succeed, but it would be really tough. There would be far more casualties, and it wouldnt speed the liberation of france by a whole lot over otl.

Whats worse is, it could fail, making it far harder to pull off an invasion in '44. This would lead to the soviets doing even better post war, in terms of territory.

If the Germans do better late 42 and mid 43 they could be over confident in '44 If they launch another big attack in late May their units may be to tied down to be pulled back easily to counter the Allies landings.

Allied air power should be able to counter German counter attacks once the initial foothold on the continent has been secured. Its then a long bloody slog from both directions but with the Russians further from Berlin than in OTL.

A '43 landing is only going to happen if the Germans do a lot WORSE and appear to be about to collapse. Op Constellation and Roundup might then be undertaken.

If the Allies do land in '43 I could see the Invasion of Normandy possibly succeeding, but the Allies are going to suffer such heavy casualties I could see the Germans being able to even better take advantage of the terrain of Normany to halt the Allied advance completely and create a sort of trench warfare situation in the area, using the densely build up hedges, fences, and roads of the area to create many overlapping defenses, which will halt the Allies for much longer than they actually were.

So, although the Allies might land in France in '43, they won't be liberating France in '43.
