Plausability Check: Fascist Brazil

In Brazil, during the thirties, a fascist movement called "Integralismo" had a widespread support both among the population and the military: it was even encouraged by the government for some time, before being banned.

I was thinking about writing a TL where, after they broke their alliance with the government, the Integralistas manage to organize a successful overthrow of Getúlio Vargas' dictatorship (I was thinking of 1937 or 1938 for the coup) and turn the Brazilian state into a Fascist one, eventually aligning the country with the Axis in World War II.

Would such events be plausible and interesting to read about? If so, has any other timeline before used then? Thanks!

The impression I get is many, including the Integralists themselves, overestimated their real support. Vargas was already, in many aspects, at the head of a fascist(ic) government, and there were too few people who cared about the differences between what Vargas' Estado Novo was and what a hypothetical Integralist government would be. Also, by 1937, Vargas had been at the head for 7 years, taking full advantage of his position to make sure most of the government and military would be loyal to him, and not he Integralist or Communists.

Therefore, I don't think an Integralist coup is likely to succeed, although that is a likelier proposition than the 1935 Intentona Comunista succeeding.

As for an Integralist government joining the Axis, I think it's even less likely than the Integralists becoming the government; although the pro-Nazi faction was a strong one in the AIB, it wasn't the only one, or perhaps even the strongest one(it certainly was a vocal one). Although Integralism was a totalitarian ideology, it was closer to Fascism in the sense of being (theoretically) race-blind. The Integralism salute was, after all, supposedly taken from the Tupi language(although it was probably invented by the Integralists).

Ideological reasons aside, the circumstances that led Brazil to join the Allies would be the same, so I think the best you would get is a neutral Brazil.
