Plausability and what if Warsaw liberated with British and US Airpower

Suppose both Bomber Command and the US 8th Airforce were ordered to give priority to supplying the resistence from the start of the uprising. The distances were long but maybe not intolerable.

How does this change post war events?

If it is clear that the rising will win might Soviet forces be ordered to back it?

Does this shorten WW2 in Europe?

Without Stalin allowing Allied planes to use Soviet airfields, any and all airdrops and air support would be too limited to allow Armija Krajowa to win the Warsaw Uprising. And Stalin knew that a successful Warsaw Uprising would halt his plan of a Soviet-dominated Eastern Europe, a plan so central to his war effort and anti-German coalition effort that there's just no plausible way of having him support the Poles.

It's sad, grim and slightly insulting, but the Uprising was pretty much destined to fail without some major changes, both to the course of World War II and to Soviet political doctrine.

It is a interesting WI; had the USSR not been operating with its historical agenda. We'd have seen a lot more W Allied airpower and periphrial naval ops in the east, and a different underground. Rumania, Bulgaria, Finnland, and perhaps Hingary might have dropped out sooner.

Unfortunally it requires a large PoD to get to this situation.

What a wonderful mess it would be if the Western Allies did what the POD states damn the consequences. Bombing German sites and landing in Soviet territory. At the same time parachute a few brigades into Warsaw as well.

So Stalin has two choices he cane either support his Allies or he can impound the planes and let the Western Paratroopers be overrun along with the Home Army and show his true colors.

What happens to lendlease?

The effect on postwar Europe is intriguing

Maybe the West then decides "Screw You Uncle Joe, we're taking Berlin and whatever else the Germans are willing to let us grab!"

The big winners here may just be Von Pannwitz and his Cossacks

Even if the uprising gets the supplies, German forces are still close enough for a counterattack. Warsaw's fate is OTL, just delayed.

Or alternately, the Red Army overruns the resistance and THEIR fate is OTL, just delayed. But the very public crushing of the resistance by one of the Allies would make some interesting butterflies in the early Cold War.
