Plausabilitu check, an Orthodox President?

So we’ve had a catholic president, many Protestant presidents, but is it plausible for there to be an orthodox president? I put this in pre 1900 in case anyone can find a way before 1900. Who is the most likely person? Can it be done in the 19th century? 20th century? Or is it only plausible in the future?

Yes in post 1900s. Michael Dukakis is Greek orthodox, and if he didnt release Willie Horton and ran a half competent campaign he could have won the 1988 election.

Pre-1900? No, getting a Catholic president took a long time and there aren't nearly as many Orthodox Christians as Catholics or Protestants.

Post-1900, much more likely.

1988 seems hard for democrats. Could Dukakis have instead run in ‘92?
I mean the democrats were way ahead in the polls until the actual campaign. 1988 was a very winnable election for the democrats with the economic crash in 87 and Iran Contra it’s just the democrats managed to fail spectacularly

I’ll note you haven’t specified president of what...

Ralph Nader is Eastern Orthodox too. Though I don't know under which circumstances he'd join a mainstream party. He ain't no guy for compromises.

Yes, but those limited numbers might actually help a bit. I don't think there was the same social stigma placed on Orthodox Americans like there was upon Catholics which, conceivably, could make it easier for an Orthodox politician to gain the nomination of their respective party.
