1: Nixon Assassinated in 1964 by American Stalinist Georgy Thoms.
2: Lodge succeeds after Nixon's Assassination and takes a Rockefeller approach on Economic Issues and the Civil Rights Movement, Conservative Democrats and Republicans split and form a new party. This three way confrontation allows McCarthy to win in 68. The reaming Republicans rename themselves the "moderates"
3: Shelby wins the electoral vote but not the popular vote

Democrats- Center Left by European Standards and fully left by American Standards. A very strong base of labor unions

Moderates- The Rockefeller Republicans by American Standards are center left to centrist. By European Standards they are moderates

Conservatives- The smallest party with national representation, they are lazzie fare and socially conservative. Made up of Born Again Christians

Highly unlikely, if a Civil War couldn't kill the Dems and the Great Depression and WWII couldn't kill the GOP, I don't see anything that could kill them, maybe nuclear war...

George Wallace ran his own campaign..

thats right he lost, the way the US system is set up there really can only be two parties the Electoral College makes it very very hard for a 3rd party to win or hang on long term. get rid of the Electoral College you'd start seeing more parties
