Plague of Justinian

I think what he want is no Byzantine reconquest of Africa and Italy, right...?
He conquered Africa long before the plague but I suppose it would effect the Gothic War. Maybe Belisarius is sent east instead of to Italy and Totila gets it all?

Or maybe Belisarius marries Theodora and gets crowned Emperor?

You would have to get rid of Belisarius's own wife, to whom he seems to have been insanely devoted. Might be that Theodora might arrange this as a way of maintaining power but that could have implications if the news leaks out.

However a combination of Theodora's political skills and Belisarius's military leadership could be damned formidable. They might not resume the war in Italy, or do it more efficiently, but I wouldn't like to be a Persia taking on emperor Belisarius.;)

Indeed. But there is still the problem that Theodora dies in 548. But if Theodora lived longer only God knows what would have happened (maybe the conquest of Mesopotamia?) :p.
