Pink Lady Ends Drought
Music industry people here in Tokyo are elated over Pink Lady's "Kiss In The Dark" reaching number one on Billboard's Hot 100. Not since Kyu Sakamoto's 1963 hit "Sukiyaki" reached number one back in 1963 has there been a Japanese hit in North America. That's a 15-year dry spell. "Kiss In The Dark" and "Sukiyaki" are the only two hits ever charted in the U.S. by Japanese in the entire history of the recording industry.
