During the riots of 1968 in Montreal (the day before the 1968 election in Canada), when rioters threw rocks and bottles at the grandstand where Pierre Trudeau was sitting, he stayed seated, despite the pleas of aides to head for cover, and impressed many with his courage.

One of the rioters on the St. Jean Baptiste Day parade is armed with a .45-caliber revolver, and empties it into Trudeau, killing him instantly.
