Pictish Scotland

Well for one, it'd be called Pictland rather than Scotland. But other than that I am not too sure. Hell, I don't think people are completely sure exactly who the Picts even were exactly. Personally I think they were simply ancient Britons, descendants of the Caledonians who fought Rome. But I cannot think of exactly how having the Britons rather than Gaels retaining the north of the island would change history. I do have some ideas as to how to reach this outcome, however. Although it'd have to be really early as from what little I know it seems the Scots were migrating in large numbers and gaining much power even while Picts still ruled. One way to keep the Picts in charge would be to reach some PoD that involves less Viking raids on Pictland. The Vikings sapped much of the Pictish power.

In RoS the Vikings intermarried and blended with the Pitcs to form the Picto-Norse and thanks to the timely formation of the Irish Empire and a massive invasion of the Saxons from Denmark, were able to confine the Gaels to the south-western coast in the mid 9th to early 10th centuries.

The area itself is now known as Ketneyar.

I guess there's a lot of things different in my TL compared to this question, but less cross pollination between Scotland and Ireland for one. (Stuff like the Bruce attempt at conquest does not happen.)

They were i think like the Welsh in many ways including the same type of Celtic language. History wise it seems that the Picts were more artistic than the Scots, so the Picts could come out with a more artistic culture. Though i do rememberer one Medieval Total War Viking Invasion campaign when i was the Picts and we came to be the strongest people due to huge armies and extensive building programs, including a cathedral. This gave me the idea that maybe a strong more centralized dynasty, another thing is if the Picts had more man power and used stone for constructing bigger wall projects they could do something with it.
