(Pertend Other and republician is Social Democratic and Conservative respectively)
The 2016 election was one of the most contested in the post NRC era. Immediately after the pomp and majesty filled conventions, the three tickets hit the campaign trails. The social democrats hit the trail with the promise to continue former President Warren's social security expansions and to "Get goverment out of the bed room." They had two very good campaigners in former comedian Al Franken and Playboy SD Donald Trump. Admittedly Donald's presence was a mixed blessing, his private life was the emblem of all Social Conservatives considered abhorrent and his confrontational and often vulgar rhetoric on the campaign trail may of hurt the ticket. Meanwhile the Democrats had the earnest senator from West Virginia who worked well with working class crowds and vice presidential candidate Robertson was very effective with religious voters. They planned to continue the expanded work progams and promised to defend the moral fabric of America with the defense of the present Constitutional amendments. Jeb Bush held his own, using the massive resources of his family to bear to run a massive professional campaign.Pence faded into irrelevancy due to his lack of charisma. The election ended up with no electoral college victor with Al Franken keeping traditional SD strongholds and gaining many new gains, winning many southern states due to Trump's status as "the greatest friend blacks ever had" and split voting among working class Southerners who liked the appeal of the Democratic Manchin in contrast to the conservative Bush. The Democrats did best in their home turf in the rust belt, where it was well known that Manchin was the Unions guy and receiving a strong endorsment by Mayor Colbert a rising star in Rust belt politics. They also made gains in the south with the addition of Missouri, and Arkansas to the Democratic column. The conservatives held the line in the Midwest and most of the south. The conservatives are very worried about the loss of parts of the south and are analysing the situation closely. It is now down to the house to find the President and the senate to find the vice. The SDs hold a majority in the house but a Conservative/Democratic alliance could out vote them. However the Democrats hold A decisive majority in the senate and will most likely choose Pat Robertson for the position.

@President Earl Warren - cool, just one thing: New Mexico is in the PSA ;)

Quick question, I can't find it in the thread: What does NRC mean?
Sorry for bothering you guys.

NRC stands for National Restoration Council. It was something I came up with for a post White-Peace scenario following the war between the USA, Canada and PSA. Basically, it gets set up as a nastier version of OTL's HUAC - with a revanchist and militarist outlook - and ends up effectively running the country.

On the surface, the Chairman of the NRC is a junior Cabinet official like the HUD Secretary, America is run by the President, etc, and the Chairman avoids the limelight.... However, the NRC use investigations and/or blackmail to manipulate elections for those who support them or at least can be relied on to swing their way, to the point that the President always listens to the Chairman's advice. So gradually it becomes more and more apparent where the real power lies. To buttress their power and secure more support, they also pander to segregationists in the South and label many who campaign against it as Syndicalists or foreign-inspired agitators.

Their policies lead to unrest and revolt in many parts of the nation over the years, and ultimately they're removed and untampered-with elections are held, leading to the Sanders presidency in the early 90s.

Their 'advice' causes successive administrations to: not recognise the PSA; not recognise Canadian incorporation of New England and Alaska; follow a revanchist policy towards both; pursue a major military build-up and 'understanding' with Russia; and follow standard autocratic policies (anti-feminist, anti-gay, suppressing critical art/literature...) and calling everyone they target Syndicalists or enemy spies (and just so happening to get evidence to that effect...)*

I figured something like this would grow after a White Peace...and that a White Peace was more realistic than my game where I conquered and occupied the US (waaaaaaaay too big and armed for that :D )

* It's really statistically quite alarming how many feminists in the US during the NRC era also turned out either to be Syndicalists or Canadian spies...

One clarifying fact, im basing Trump's Freindliness with minorities on real life. Before he went racist with the Birther nonsense, he had a excellent polling among minorities with his shows.

Also the only reason Trump is an SD is because he lives in NYC and it was convenient when he was working with the SDs. He only got into politics because Samantha Bee called him a fool to his face and joined up in the Primaries to spite her.

Another thing, pat Robertson in this story did not join up with the CPA due to the arrest and murder of Billy Graham. He decided to go underground and became a member of the Christian resistance to the NRC. He also is not the type to go out and declare that earthquakes and other events are acts of god, mainly due to the fact he got his nose rubbed in the PCAs rhetoric and was disgusted by it.

Aye :)

Anyway @theg*ddam*hoi2fan how closely tied are the Grand Alliance? My assumption is they are kinda loose and have their own spheres(Paneuropa,Imperial Federation and Co-Prosperity Sphere).

Pretty much. They do their own thing most of the time, but cooperated, did joint peacekeeping operations and shared information as part of keeping Russia and the US contained. And even though the threat there has receded they keep up the cooperation, which now includes space development. Still distinct blocs and they pursue their own interests...but they recognise the value of cooperation and have no contentious borders or issues that might provoke conflict.

Isaac Nabwana, considered to be the best director in Tanganyika, and arguably the best director in all of Africa. His movies are notable for their comedic tone and absurd, fun-to watch action. By far his most famous movie, and the one that first won him the award of Best Director, is "Who killed Captain Alex?" Set during the Mittelafrikan Civil War, the film opens with a raid led by Askari Captain Alex on the base of the Tiger Mafia, led by the evil Richard, who takes hamminess to an absurd level. Richard's brother is captured, and in anger he launches a retaliatory strike that kills Captain Alex. The Askaris attempt to investigate the murder, and are joined by Alex's brother, Bruce U, a Kung-fu master. The Askaris send Bruce U away, however, leaving him to avenge his brother himself. Bruce U runs into one of Richard's(coerced) wives, who managed to escape the clutches of the Tiger Mafia. Meanwhile, Richard hatches a new plan: he sends Ivan Grutov, a sadistic Russian mercenary who was in Savinkov's Okhrana during the Second Weltkrieg, to steal a helicopter and bomb civilians. Ivan succeeds with this task, and Richard prepares to bomb Dar es Salaam. The film climaxes with a half-hour long action sequence, as the Askaris assault the Tiger Mafia base, the helicopter attacks the city, and Bruce U faces Richard in single combat. After an absolute extravaganza of gunfire, Kung-fu, and helicopter battles, Richard is kicked into the blazing inferno that his base became, and it explodes in a pillar of flame. The film's comedic tone is topped off by the narrator lamp shading that we still don't know who killed Captain Alex.

During the 'Great Game' era, the Royal Canadian Navy was primarily concentrated on Canada's Atlantic coast. Early on, RN and RCN planners had seen that in the event of another war with the United States, a 'sea bridge' to Canada would have to be kept open to allow Britain to send reinforcements. The Canadian Army would fight to hold American forces as long as possible until reinforcements arrived, while the RN and RCN would both strive to keep the 'sea bridge' open. Knowing that the US Navy with its five-supercarrier fleet was a potent threat in this regard, both nations leased land for air-bases in Iceland and Danish Greenland. In time of war, RAF and RCAF units stationed at these bases would react to attacks on convoys, adding their own power to carrier air escorting the convoys in the event of a USN carrier attack. In addition, both nations also worked to develop top-of-the-range guided missile destroyers, to attempt to severely reduce the enemy carrier threat.

Wargaming during the 'Great Game' era revealed mixed results for these tactics: success and failure both being quite likely.

Californian loco band 'The Sun Godz' c. 1969. The Sun Godz were one of many bands to contribute to the 'Sound of the Sun' era of loco music, and among the first to marry the usual Latin inspirations with other music styles.

Loco music did not remain limited to the Pacific States in popularity, and spread across the North and South American continents and beyond. However, it was very much frowned upon in the NRC-era United States. Though not actually made illegal, federal censors would find so many reasons to not allow loco to be played or sold that it might as well have been. However, this would lead to a thriving culture of record-smuggling in border states, and American youth could often lay their hands on records, if willing to pay and take 'pot luck' with whatever the smugglers had been able to bring in.

American youth listening to smuggled loco music at an underground club in Philadelphia, c. 1967. Despite the efforts of the censors, of police departments, and of parents in many cases, it was impossible to keep either loco or German Neo-Cabaret out of the country. Thus, the NRC encouraged a number of friendly businessmen to establish 'youth' record labels, which would promote 'more suitable' artists.

Anita Bryant c. 1971. Bryant was one of the artists promoted by Eagle Records, a record company with the unofficial backing of the NRC and the official stamp of approval from the Office of the Federal Censor. By volume of sales, she was a fairly popular artist...though anecdotal evidence suggests the majority of purchases of her records were by parents who thought this was what their teenage offspring were listening to. Another reason - again, thanks to anecdotal evidence - is that young people would buy her records, then throw away the discs and use the sleeve to house their smuggled copies of The Sun Godz or The Desert Flowers or Joan Baez.

Bryant was also outspoken on socio-political matters including her patriotism, her religio-patriotism, and her denunciation of the many 'evils' that riddled PSA and Canadian youth culture and how they were trying to 'influence good American kids away from the light'. In later life, she would join the Patriotic Christian Association and become one of its leading spokespeople. She remains an outspoken proponent of her brand of Christianity and public morality, being a vigorous denouncer of the 'Manhattan Scene', but owing to her previous membership of the PCA even most right-wing Christians want nothing to do with her...and while many social conservatives would agree with her fulminations against gay rights, her demands to make it illegal on a federal level is something that even few conservatives would openly support these days.

Flag of the Italian Federation. In the aftermath of the second weltkrig and Risgmorento, the Italian federation began to liberalize. The papacy, who had always been very uncomfortable about the temporal power affored to them, came to an agreement on who shall hold power with Democratic forces in a series of meetings called the Rome sessions. The pope should remain head of state and Roman Catholicism would remain 'the spiritual force which kept Italy holy'. In exchange the pope would give up all power to a democraticlly elected prime minister and assembly.(think the queen of England and her relationship to parliament). Over the years this system has made Italy the most Socially conservative nation in Europe, and the idle of the American Democratic party. It has a very large and extensive Welfare state while at the same time possessing a very Socially conservative system when it comes to matters like abortion or Gay rights. The populace is very devout and love their new pope and technical head of state pope Francis, even though he is an La Platan.
