Hello. This is going to be like the picture threads about TL-191 and Kaiserreich. Only this time it is about Fatherland, the Cold War, and the horrible truth of the Holocaust. Any photos are fine as long so long it won't get anyone in trouble with the mods and the board and is related to Fatherland.

    To start things out....

The State Funeral of Adolf Hitler. With the end of any hope of a alliance with the United States and the truth of the Holocaust coming out to the whole world, Hitler health gave way with his death in May 8, 1964. The Greater German Reich and Europe soon follow.

I have a question, since Eisenhower returned in disgrace after the failure of the D-day invasion, who was President in the '50s?

That was only mentioned in the tv film not the book. I am guessing a Conservative like John Bricker.

Makes sense, as the book makes clear America won the war against Japan

And somebody has to fill up the vacuum that Eisenhower leaves as a failed general.

Peter Shore would only be 40 in 1964 assuming the Butler Gov collapses within months of the events of the book (April 1964)

Look, Fatherland is far more realistic depiction of a postwar Nazi Germany than most WW2 alternate history fiction (even if some such as The Man in the High Castle'' and the ''Wolfenstein'' games are good). Here the German Reich isn't all conquering empire it's instead a Cold War rival to the United States.

Yeah, I sort of envisaged Shore as a minister or spokesperson for the government rather than PM. IOTL he got his first Cabinet position in 1967 so I wouldn't say it's too much of a stretch.

President Albert Speer of the "German National Republic" the Government which replaced the Nazi Government following a coup by Senior Army Officers in 1964. The new Government was not able to gain total control of the country until 1968 following resistance by Nazi die-hards. Speer always denied he knew about the holocaust, and was helped that his name didn't appear in the smuggled documents which proved the holocaust.

Former Deputy Prime-Minister Clement Attlee returned to the Country from exile in Canada in 1964 after the fall of the Butler Government. Aged 81, he is seen here being Interviewed by the BBC during it's 1964 General Election Night coverage. It was the first truly free General Election since 1935.
