what happen to the Los Zetas Sinaloa Cartel Gulf Cartel Jalisco New Generation Cartel and Los Metros Cartel during World War Z since they had alot of weapons and firepower despite been drug cartels while their tactics been originated from the Mexican Special Forces Grupos Aeromóviles de Fuerzas Especiales (GAFE) and brutality on anyone who is going to against them as they are nothing to been messed with.

The cartels would rule the areas they are dominant. They would probably offer protection to those who will be loyal to them. Or they may enter an uneasy truce/ceasefire with Mexican Federales, military, or anti-cartel militias because the zombies don't care.

Two Ukrainian soldiers patrol a partly cleared road after the end of official hostilities.

Note the shovel.
Not to go to current politics, but WWZ somehow aged poorly in 2014 when Russia invaded Crimea. The novel mentions that Ukraine and the Holy Russian Empire may go to war over Crimea or the East.

Harsher in Hindsight indeed.

One of the biggest problems in rural areas post Z-War was the collapse of infrastructure making clearance efforts much harder, as seen here in Japan.

A soldier belonging to the British Territorial Army boards an armored vehicle as part of the deployment to restore order in London during the Great Panic (aka Operation Drypool). The Territorials were the first of the British Armed Forces to combat the undead in home soil (the UKSF being the first to fight them overseas during Operation Stoneferry). Once the Territorials suffered heavy casualties and exhaustion, the regular British Army was called in.

EuroStar Trains stuck in Waterloo International Station by the Great Panic.

The underground levels of Waterloo International where barracaded off by the few staff and passengers there and remained a haven in London during WWZ.

A soldier of the Holy Russian Empire armed with a WWII Mosin Nagant. Due to logistics problems, the HRE mostly arms its soldiers with surplus leftover from World War II and the Cold War. Hence, it was a common sight seeing Russian soldiers having a mix of Kalashnikovs (AK-47s, AKMs, AK-74s), PPSh-41s, PPS-43s, and the iconic Mosin Nagant.

WWZ - Years 1 to 10
Location - Paris, France

During the initial outbreak periods in the early years of WWZ, many people fought hard to escape the cities and flee into the countryside for safety. Very little decided to bunker down and defend themselves near cities or towns, and Paris was no exception.

Due to it shutting down very early during the first cases in France, Disneyland Paris was turned into a refugee camp for those trying to escape the cities in the very first few months of the war. As time and realisation set in that the undead were here to stay, refugees in the theme parks main town turned it into a fully working, operational and functional place to house the community within. With it's high walls, large hotel complex, operational railroad system, retail units and gardens, it became one of the most perfect utopias to exist during the war.

Its retail units were refitted for purpose within the theme parks large walls as places to store medicine, food, weapons and other survival utilities. The railroad system was used to transport stripped parts from theme park rides that could be used to reinforce the walls and utilised in other areas of the town. City hall became the communities main meeting point for discussion and meetings with community leaders and it's people. Liberty court was held as a place of laying rules and laws within the town, with it's own law enforcement made of ex millitary and police survivors. Restaurants were used to cook food while neighbouring green sites were turned into farm land to grow crops.

The entire town served as a fully functional community with electricity running from salvaged solar panels, running water and an in house community council, law enforcement and employment system (every refugee in the camp had their own roles and responsibilities to keep it maintained and in working order) for the entire 10 year war.
