Photos from World War Z

One of the only known photos of refugee trucks passing through the China-Krygyzstan border before the Great Panic. Inside these trucks were Chinese refugees, mostly infected with the Solanum virus, seeking treatment all the way to Europe. Because majority were infected, these Chinese refugees reanimated midway and caused local outbreaks in Central Asia that went unnoticed by the world before the outbreak in South Africa.

A recently retrieved photo of Uyghur separatists taking control of Xinjiang as the Chinese military and security forces collapsed during the Communist Party's disasterous war against the zombies. Since most PLA and PAP forces had to be deployed to the East, regions such as Xinjiang and Tibet immediately rose up against the meager Chinese government forces could not hold back the uprisings in place. Unlike Tibet which was protected by a plateau, Xinjiang already had local infestations coming from refugees other parts of China. Any celebrations of secession were short lived as the Uyghurs needed to clear local hordes that were already present in the region.

After VC Day, the Chinese Federation recognized the independence of Xinjiang, which was officially known as the Republic of East Turkistan.

Turkish Armed Forces guarding the Bosphorus Bridge as Istanbul is evacuated. Unfortunately, the Battle of Istanbul would result in a defeat for the Turkish, which utilized Leopard 2 tanks, attack helicopters, and fighter jets against the hordes. It resulted in Turkey's equivalent of the Battle of Yonkers.

Cholera-slide-PZWY-articleLarge.jpg

Refugees sufferring from cholera. Actual location is unknown, but what is certain is that the Zombie War also saw the emergence of secondary outbreaks such as cholera, tuberculosis, flu, and other medical problems such as malnutrition as health care and sanitation broke down.

Still frame from an SAA CGI propaganda film, featuring tanks heroically driving back Zeds from a besieged town.
SAA tanks were often sent in with little or no infantry support. What little infantry support available usually
retreated out of fright, said infantry often made up of conscripts, many under-age. What resulted would come to be
termed as a "Tanker's Tomb." Infected would crowd over the tank, blocking the sights and even sometimes jamming the tracks with their bodies.
If in line of sight with friendly forces, the crew could be guided via radio. However, for less fortunate tanks, they would be swarmed in areas in
which they could not be guided by friendly forces, such as in a heavily urban area. If the tank did not manage to escape their predicament, they would be
trapped with hordes of infected all around them. Many unfortunate crewman died of either thirst or suicide.

T-55 left to die in the Suburbs of Daraa during the failed 2014 second waves offensive. Photo taken in 2021.
Note the decrepit state of the tank. By now, most of its components, including the engine, have rotted away.
When coming across such "husks," as they are termed, what few working components would be stripped to be
recycled in other vehicles.

T-72 run aground out of fuel during a botched armor raid on a horde somewhere in the countryside.
Luckily, the crew of this tank would be saved after a few heart wrenching hours. Photo taken in 2020.

This what full MOPP gear was.

Trust me, it sucked to wear and move around in.

Especially if you had to do crunches, pushups, and jumping jacks in them.
Now imagine with the heat from the summer of 2013 and the fires (as described in the novel), the lack of peripheral vision, the bulky suit, your LBV with all the ammunition and grenades, and finally trying not to break under pressure with a million-man horde of undead heading your way.

traditional-village-papua-new-guinea-picture-id94105843

A native village in Papua New Guinea that was untouched by the outbreak by virtue of isolation. Some police officers and PNGDF personnel retreated to this village to provide security. They would later receive air dropped supplies and weapons from the U.S. and Australia.

A remote control car with a camera. This model appears to be crudely constructed by survivors. RC cars with cameras have been used for recon and scouting indoors to see if there are hidden zombies residing within a building. By feeding on real-time, clean-and-sweep teams would have prior knowledge on what rooms held zombies for clearing. Other models of RC cars include those with musical speakers and lights in order to funnel a horde to a kill zone. It is no doubt that thousands of lives were saved during room clearing thanks to this innovation of a famous recreational hobby.

Post-war London, Halloween 2027: A prankster in a zombie costume is arrested by policemen for bringing up unnecessary panic. Since the start of World War Z, zombie costumes and pranks have been outlawed due to the unintended chaos it will cause. In many cases, pranksters either get injured or mistakenly killed in self-defense. The charges of pranking as zombies are akin to bomb jokes in airports and transportation hubs.
