Photos from Featherston's Confederacy/ TL-191

Actually, I think the Confederate Battle Flag will become something like the Imperial German flag IOTL. A Battle Flag is just showing your support for Confederate Independence, which only makes you a traitor in the US ITTL.

The Freedom Party Flag, OTOH, would be far more like a swastika, as the Freedom Party would be unambiguously genocidal, and a Freedom Party Flag is more "I want to kill all blacks" than "I support the Confederacy."

I just had a thought. Since there are now two versions of that flag, how the heck are people ITTL supposed to tell which colors were used from black and white photos and films?

Because color photographs exist from the 1870's. And there would be paintings, and someone would have written down what color the flags were and there are bound to be examples lying around somewhere.

I know, I couldn't believe that either.

Mind if I repost that in "Things that look like AH but aren't"?

Also, I am left wondering how exactly a Freedom Party flag found its way in there. What, was one of the reenactors a Turtledove fan and wanted to signal fellow AH Buffs? Or a troll who was quietly yet openly comparing the CSA to a genocidal regime?

Go for it. Maybe it's really a different flag, but it looks similar from that angle.

well... I wouldn't go that far, but I'd imagine that the impact and notoriety of the Confederate flag would deteriorate over time the same as the swastika has.

I think there would be a day in TL-191 where this:

and this:

could be shown without the kind of immediate demonizaiton that they used to warrant.
Kevvy were talking about flying something that is comparable to flying either of these flags.

on is banned in Germany and the other one will get you dirty looks. So I think it will not be for a very long time.

The Sons of Freedom was a terrorist group that led a series of uprisings throughout Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. The worst attacks were perpetrated by the law clerk Frederick Phelpes who would famously bomb the houses of blacks and other "degenerates". His most famous action being the bombing of a "schock" concert of the Singer John Cash.

The Immperial German flag is banned in Germany?

No, just the Nazi flag. But it is used by German Neo-nazi groups, and is thus recognized as the rough equivalent. The monarchists in Germany are pissed as well as the regular citizens. I highly doubt the Confederacy would have monarchists though. Maybe a Freedom and Non-Freedom split from the armed forces.

No it gets you really bad looks because of its associations with Far right groups.

I quick Google search led me to some site (a neo-Nazi one, so I won't link it) that sells the things. They say it's the Trans Mississippi Battle flag.
