Now for some more assorted photos from my railroad ideas that
@TheMann and
@Lucas inspired.
Aitchison, Topeka, & Santa Fe Pacific #3433 pauses at Santa Fe Union Station. Despite being one of the namesake cities, the Santa Fe nearly circumvented this city due to difficulty entering it. That is until in 1877 scouts discovered that the city could be reached if the line made a less direct route from Glorieta. In addition, the ATSF also interchanged with the Rio Grande's Chili Line here, which itself was converted from narrow to standard gauge in the 1930s.
Santa Fe Mountain #3743 leads the
Missouri Chief somewhere near San Diego in June 13, 1933. The St. Louis counterpart to the Chicago - San Diego
Chief, this train ran over the ATSF to Avard, OK - where the SLSF then took over the rest of the way to St. Louis.
It is a sunny June 1936 day in Tulsa, OK as Frisco Mountain #1516 prepares to take the Missouri Chief to the ATSF interchange point at Avard, OK. Said preparations include shunting an RPO from the train's Kansas City section onto the consist, which features mail said section picked up for delivery to the train's terminus in San Diego.
This photo shows Rio Grande Consoliation #1007 shunting along the Rio Grande's Chili Line neat Taos Junction, NM. The Rio Grande converted the once Narrow Gauge ROW to Standard Gauge as a way for shippers in New Mexico to get their goods more directly to Denver than the ATSF could.
