Poster for On Her Majesty's Secret Service

The world was shocked when American Elvis Presley was announced as the new James Bond after Sean Connery declined to return to the role. Many Bond fans were upset that an American was playing a British agent but others countered with the fact Connery was Scottish and played the role. On Her Majesty's Secret Service would go on to be a big success, surprising many who doubted Presley. The film would re-launch Presley's film career and get Presley nominated for an Oscar (he lost sadly). Many Bond fans rank Presley's performance as Bond among the top alongside the likes of Connery and Sean Bean.

Presley would not return for the next film as Sean Connery would return to the role but Elvis would be back in the next Bond film, Live and Let Die. Presley would go on to portray Bond from 1973 to 1985. Presley would make a cameo in Sean Bean's Goldeneye in 1994.

Nevertheless, the Capone family continues to dominate Chicago and Illinois politics to this day and on both sides of the political spectrum.

Khmer Rouge communist guerrillas in a jungle near the Thai-Cambodian border, circa August 1982 (top). A guerrilla firing a machine gun at government troops in 1983 (upper-centre). Two young Cambodian boys with their mother who lost her right leg to a Khmer Rouge landmine (lower-centre). A sign warning people of unexploded land mines, circa 2020 (bottom).

Despite the Khmer Republic, under Marshal Lon Nol, having claimed total victory in the Cambodian Civil War (or as the United States calls it, “the Cambodia Conflict or Cambodia War”), bands of Khmer Rouge fighters still control swathes of territory in the west of the country and throughout the remainder of the 1970s going into the 1980s Khmer Rouge troops would ambush government troops, attack civilian trains, take hostages, & indiscriminately plant landmines throughout the areas they controlled.

However, with the capture of their leader Saloth Sâr aka Pol Pot in October 1985 it seems that the communist insurgency that has been plaguing the Lon Nol Government will finally come to an end. This comes at a desperate time for the marshal as Lon Nol’s government has been severely pressured from the United States, South Vietnam, and Australia to allow free and fair elections (previous elections since the founding of the Khmer Republic have been rigged in the marshal’s favour and there have been multiple allegations of voter intimidation and jailing opposition) – though Phnom Penh’s allies haven’t really been putting pressure on them until recently due to the Khmer Rouge insurgency but with Pol Pot’s capture and the insurgency in disarray it seems as though Lon Nol’s days may be numbered.

Marshal Lon Nol of Cambodia reads out his acceptance speech in his third consecutive victory in his country’s presidential elections which has also led to his right-wing Social Republican Party continually holding a vast majority in the Cambodian National Assembly – with only token seats given to opposition parties such as Democracy Cambodia!, the Democratic Party (Cambodia), the Republican Party (Cambodia), and the revived socialist Krom Pracheachon (People's Group).

I’m guessing from a TL where England colonized Japan and not one where Japan and England cultures are reversed.

Ya'll should check out the script that leaked for this, it's good shit.

Daisy Ridley as she appeared in as Rey in "Star Wars Episode IX: Duel of the Fates", the decidedly final trilogy film for the revived Star Wars franchise. Directed by Colin Trevorrow, the film was a remarkably darker and experimental take on what came before it, seeking to once and for all end the duality between the Light and Dark sides of the force, as director Rian Johnson had attempted to hint at in his film previous. While Rey rejects her presumptive destiny to become a Jedi by busying herself with bringing down the First Order once and for all, Kylo Ren has all but abandoned his position as Supreme Leader, instead voyaging to find the pillars of the Force and destroy them in order to bring and end to the concepts that he views as constantly tearing his life apart.

The film is also the last motion picture credit of actress Carrie Fisher, reprising her role as General Leia Organa, de facto figurehead of the depleted Resistance Movement. Having shot her required scenes before her untimely death, Trevorrow chose to incorporate Fisher's passing into the final product; tho she is slain during the Battle of Coruscant, her posthumous recorded holographic call to arms is broadcasted through the entire star-system, successfully rallying the majority of planets to rise up against the First Order.

The film is lauded by critics for its unique use of no clear single antagonist, truely blurring the lines between light and dark with complicated characters. Led to the long-thought abandoned Sith home-world of Korriban, Kylo Ren seeks the tutelage of Dark Lord Tor Valum, progenitor to Supreme Leader Snoke and analogue to Jedi Master Yoda. Tho not portrayed inherently evil, Tor Valum hinted at the intention of the Sith as a step towards bringing absolute order to the universe, even if that was under a tyrannical boot.

After Kylo slays Tor Valum in a rage by draining his life energy (a newfound Force he unlocked during his brief tutelage), it is quickly revealed that the latter used his colossal mental powers to control the planet's hostile wildlife. With this mental control broken, Kylo is surrounded by a pack of nightmarish Loth-wolves, the fight against which almost costs him his life. Of course, he dies later on in the film, following his ultimate redemption, but that is neither here nor there.

Have not got around to watching IX yet. Have some how managed to avoid most spoilers too. But from the critical responses I have heard this version sounds quite better. Looking forward to seeing more.
