Low-quality image of Iranian tanks rolling into Afghanistan, fall 1998.

In 1998, shortly after the Taliban seized control of Mazar-i-Sharif, Iranian diplomats to Afghanistan and one journalist, a correspondent from Iran's state news agency (IRNA) named Mahmoud Saremi, were killed. Iran, which had been supportive of the Northern Alliance, was outraged by this action. While a spokesperson for the Taliban claimed that the Iranians had been killed by renegade forces who had acted without orders, outside observers were concerned that Iran would be involved in a military response to the attack. Over 70,000 Iranian soldiers were sent to the Iranian-Afghan border. The United Nations attempted to try and prevent conflict between the two nations from occurring but was unsuccessful. In the Fall of 1998, Iranian troops moved into Afghanistan, beginning the Iranian-Afghan War (1998-2018).

Wallis_Simpson_-1936.jpg

Wallis Simpson, the colonial subject who married King Edward VIII.

Simpson was born in Blue Ridge, Province of Pennsylvania, Thirteen Colonies. In 1936, an abdication crisis occurred over Edward marrying Simpson in the mother country. In the Thirteen Colonies, mainly New England (a region that was the last to fall back into His Majesty's realm after the surrender of the United States in the First Rebellion (Revolutionary War) and was a hotbed of anti-British sentiment ever since), riots broke out over Simpson and Edward marrying.

Political cartoon about the riots in New England.

On December 11, 1936, Edward VIII abdicated the throne of England. However, riots would continue until Christmas Day, 1936.

In the Channel, the flagship of the Commonwealth of Great Britain and Ireland Navy, CNS Wales, accelerates into the measured mile on her sea trials. Her extended construction period meant she was the first aircraft carrier built from the keel up with an angled deck.

1943 Second Great War poster made by the New Sons of Liberty to encourage members to fight in the war.

The New Sons of Liberty was a group that was against British rule in North America and was created around the late 19th century or early 20th century. However, most of its history is unknown. What is known is that it appeared on the historical record in 1916 when a rebellion occurred in New England. However, during both Great Wars, members were divided about rebelling. However, because of the actions taken by Britain's enemies in the Second Great War and believing that fighting would give them experience for when the Revolution would come, the New Sons of Liberty chose not to rebel.

Picture of a memorial for soldiers of the Southern Republic, Lakeland, East Florida, 1915.

From 1834-38, the Second Rebellion in the Thirteen Colonies occurred shortly after slavery was abolished in British colonies. After the defeat of the Southern Republic in 1838, many in the southern Thirteen Colonies and East and West Florida would re-write the history of the Second Rebellion, saying that slavery was not a cause for the war, instead, it was about "colonial rights." Even today, the Lost Cause of the Southern Republic myth persists.
