I assume that King Birendra continues the absolute monarchy (no western allies to pressure him on human rights) and is still assassinated by his son in a massacre-suicide. Gyanendra (brother of Birendra) ascends to the throne and his son Paras is scared straight and cleans up his act. In 2021, the throne peacefully passes to Paras.
