Reza_shah_uniform.jpg

A photo of the Iranian Emperor Reza Shah Pahlavi. Formerly a general in the Iranian army, Pahlavi staged a coup against the ruling Qajar dynasty with German and Italian help and proclaimed himself Shahanshah. Germany sought to gain control not only of Iran's vast oil reserves but also of the Persian Gulf itself. Pahlavi was a staunch Germanophile and became a personal friend of Kaiser Wilhelm II. Iran's government and armed forces were overhauled and modernized along Prussian lines. Pahlavi created a one-party Actionist state that ruled Iran for over fifty years. After his father's death in 1952, his son Mohammad was proclaimed Shah.

A crowd of protesters protested against the Pahlavi regime in Tehran. While Iran was one of the world's fastest growing economies in the 1960s, the Iranian economy stagnated in the 1970s because of weak economic policies as well as corruption and mismanagement. Many young Iranians studied abroad and were influenced by liberal and republican ideas from the Americas and Europe. After a failed coup that proclaimed a short-lived republic, Pahlavi, under pressure from his German allies, was forced to implement institutional and liberalizing reforms, transforming Iran into a true constitutional monarchy. Currently, Iran, while still nurturing a strong alliance with Germany, has been moving away from its traditional allies towards the United States.

Michael II arriving at the Vatican with the Pope
On March 21, 1952, Michael II, accompanied by his heir Vladimir Kyrillovich, made an official visit to Vatican City. The two were received at the Vatican Palace by Pope Julius IV, and were led inside. The reason for the visit was to "heal the wounds caused by our ancestors, which greatly divided our Church". Vladmir was in charge of recording the dialogue between the two. Michael expressed his desire to unify the two churches
The visit is considered a significant event in Catholic and Orthodox history. It served as the beginning of the healing of the split between the Catholic and Orthodox religions and is widely celebrated as the "Day of Healing" by Catholics and Orthodoxy around the world. Today, many Catholic and Orthodox priests have reconciled and initiated steps to re-merge customs and traditions as well as theology.
Michael II returned home a hero and was praised by many for his commitment to reunification and friendship among others.

The Status of African-Americans :

Evu3TYXXAAYFn7_.jpg

The Jim Crow Museum in Birmingham, Alabama, the first of its kind, illustrates the rise and fall of segregation in the 1990s.

An architectural consortium, comprising several leading architectural firms, conceptualised the design of the building on a seven-hectare stand. The museum is a superb example of design, space and landscape offering the international community a unique Southern experience.

The exhibits have been assembled and organzed by a multi-disciplinary team of curators, film-makers, historians and designers. They include provocative film footage, photographs, text panels and artefacts illustrating the events and human stories that are part of the horrific period in our history, known as segregation.

In 1995 Freedom Caucus led by John Lewis, Jesse Jackson and Barbara Lee set up a process for the granting of casino licenses, establishing an agency to do this called the Gambling Board. The bid documents stipulated that bidders should demonstrate how they would attract tourism and thereby grow the economy and stimulate job creation.

The 1980s/1990s were some of the most brutal years for African-Americans, as many white Southerners led by Governor David Duke (R-LA) formed Christian Constitution Militias (CCM) in an effort to uphold segregation policies, often in defiance of the federal government. It was only through the work and diligence of the Truth & Reconciliation Commission of 2004, did the full scope of the violence, murder and degradation come to light:

Giacomo Matteotti, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Italy from 1935 to 1942.

A member of the Italian Socialist Party, Matteotti rose to national prominence during the Italian intervention in the Austrian civil war (1921-1925) where he opposed Italy's intervention in the conflict, correctly predicting the conflict would have brought nothing to his country.
While this earned him the scorn of conservative politicians in the Italian parliament and almost caused his expulsion from the socialist party for having condradicted its official position regarding the conflict, his predictions came true at the end of the war when Italy was forced to renounce its ambitions in the region following Germany's ultimatum to Rome to leave the Austrian territories it was occupying or to face the risk of war with Germany.
Following the defeat of the socialists at the elections of 1927, he supported Turati' s attacks against Domenico Fioritto and his candidacy as new secretary of the Italian socialist party.

Becoming one of the main collaborators of the new secretary , Matteotti quickly became a proponent of the "United Front" , a strategy of collaboration with other leftist parties and even members of the political right who supported improving the conditions of the Italian Workers.

Following Turatti's retirement in 1930, he succeded him as secretary of the Socialist Party and, going against the wishes of more intransigent socialists like Benito Mussolini, he offered his support to the government of Pietro Tomasi Della Torretta. However the alliance didn't last long as a result of Tomasi's refusal to support a series of much needed projects for South Italy, resulting in the collapse of the governmente and the start of the new elections.
Winning the elections, Matteotti's government started a series of reforms aimed at improving the economy and infrastructure of South Italy while working to improve Rome's relationship with Vienna and Paris. He was also one of the first head of state to diplomatically recognise the republic of Bahrat following the collapse of British rule in India in 1939

In 1942 however the socialists lost the election to Carlo Schanzer's Liberal Party as a result of the economy crisis caused by the London Crash of 1940. While he managed to keep his position in the Socialist Party he was forced to retire from politics after discovering he he had stomach cancer in 1944.
He died in 1946 and he is generally considered a competent Prime Minister, especially in his native Veneto and Sicily where his no-tollerance policy is usually associated with the eradication of organised crime on the island. He is however a bit more controversial in the Italian territory of Lybia for his refusal to listen to the natives' proposal to extend italian citizienship to them.

Riots in Rome take place in 1969 as news of the military disaster in Northern Ethiopia reaches Europe. The Imperial government in Addis Ababa had been funding resistance movements in their lost territory since the aftermath of the Second Italian-Ethiopian War. While small, the constant attacks proved to be a major sore point for the Italian military, eventually seeing a breaking point in 1969 as a commander decided to launch an attack into Ethiopia as a deterrent for further support for the rebels. The attack proved to be a disaster as the group were surrounded and cut off from support before eventually being forced to surrender. This saw a huge wave of protests being sparked in Italian territory throughout Africa, before it spread to Europe as shades of the first Italian-Ethiopian War came into play. The government fell in the aftermath of the humiliation and several military reforms were pushed forward to bring the military under even stricter civilian control. The new Italian government also withdrew from the Ethiopian territories it once held, using the release of all captives as a way to sway public opinion away from the retreat and focusing on restoring order to Libya and other colonies. Ethiopia saw a large boost given to it for its anti-colonial credentials in the aftermath of this victory, as well as regaining its old territories, and relations between it and Italy remain frosty to this day.

Much like the 1910s/1920s, the 1980s/1990s saw some of the most violent civil unrest, often targeting African-Americans, with U.S. troops deployed, often helping vigilante mobs, into cities from Miami, Florida (1980) to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (1983) , with major portions of African-American, Asian-American and Latino/Chicano neighborhoods. For many people of color, the promise of the Stevenson Administration and further promises of protection and equality remained shallow and unfulfilled:

German and Dutch soldiers move cautiously along a jungle trail around the town of Grissee in the Dutch East Indies around 1950, despite the region gaining self-government in 1958, and relations with the Netherlands greatly improving , there are still many nationalist groups in indonesia that want total independence, most of these set up guerrilla groups in the jungle, and they give a lot of work to the government.

Okay, I have a question and decided this is a good time to ask
What would be the name of the UK royal house?
In my headcanon Elizabeth II continues to become Queen in 1952 and still marries Philip (They met during a state visit by King George VI to Greece to create an alliance between the United Kingdom and Greece during the Ottoman Civil War in 1942 , countries saw a royal marriage as the best way to ensure a good alliance), I wonder what the name of the uk royal house would be, in OTL Philip was hated by the Aristocracy because despite being a Greek prince he had been practically raised in germany, his parents were staunch Nazis and his sisters were married to Nazis, something that forced Philip to renounce his Greek titles and adopt the surname Mountbatten, after Elizabeth's accession to the throne, the name of the royal house cannot be changed for the Queen Mother disliked Phillip, and Churchill disliked Lord Mountbatten for considering him too arrogant, and for Mountbatten's role in the independence of India in 1947, something that would not happen. in this world, besides Mountbatten's surname would not be this (original surname was Battenberg, but it was changed to Mountbatten after the Titles Deprivation Act 1917) from this we have four options for the royal house's name
  • The royal house continues as Saxe-Coburg-Gotha
  • The royal house changes its name to Glücksburg, the royal house of Phillip
  • The Royal House changes its name to Edinburgh as OTL phillip suggested
  • The royal house changes its name to Battenberg
What is your opinion on this?

The Long Hot Summer of '92 (a.k.a. the Bombing of Compton) In one of the most brutal acts of racial violence; Los Angeles Mayor Daryl Gates ordered the military crackdown on Watts/ Compton after rumors that a white woman had been sexually assaulted by an armed Negro male Rodney King, caused the southern California area to erupt in violence. Governor Pete Wilson (R-CA) ordered National Guard units to bomb what was known at the time as "Black Broadway" in Compton. Christian Constitutional Militias (CCM) are believed to have have participated in vigilante "n***** hunts", leading to the deaths of 2, 683+ people, sparking international condemnation and outrage, highlighting racial and sectarian tensions throughout the Golden State,...

Huey Pierce Long Jr. (August 30, 1893 – October 4, 1946), 30th President of the United States (1927-1946)
Nicknamed "the Kingfish" he was the 31st president of the United States from 1937 until his death in 1946. A member of the Democratic Party, he won a record three presidential elections and became a central figure in world events during the first half of the 20th century. Long ran the federal government through most of the 1932 Recession, implementing its domestic New Deal agenda in response to the worst economic crisis in US history.
As President he commanded a wide network of supporters and often took strong action. A controversial figure, Long is celebrated by his supporters as a populist champion of the poor, managing to keep the United States neutral during the infamous "Decade of the 10 Wars" and kick-starting the end of racial segregation in the United States, or, conversely, denounced as an authoritarian demagogue, many of his opponents call him "America's Dictator", although many of the accusations against Long are exaggerated and appealing, his mandant was actually more authoritarian than his predecessors, including the censure of political opponents in favor of the New Deal implementation
His term was marked by several significant things such as the creation of a labor legislation, improvement of social welfare and from his second term onwards, the repeal of many segregationist laws, something that earned him the hatred of many members of the Democratic Party, such laws created for Long the reputation of "Father of the Poor" and "Savior of the Blacks" in the media, long and often fancifully portrayed as a completely just and humble man who did everything to guarantee the rights of the people and liberate the blacks of oppression, which is unrealistic, Long was in fact a populist, who didn't really care about the people or the blacks just wanting to secure their political support and their votes.
On October 4, 1946, Long was found dead in his bed in the White House at the age of 53, initially the cause of death was considered a heart attack, although the official version is considered cancer, there are however many theories of conspiracy to claim that Long had been poisoned by members of the Democratic Party who wanted to prevent him from passing a new law that would supposedly end segregation in the United States, a law that never existed

Very interesting... going by the logic of Kaiserreich333's head-canon, Phillip would not be hated by the Aristocracy or the administration, as in TTL the marriage is seen as an important alliance between the UK and Greece. Of the four options listed, I'd say Glucksburg is the most likely candidate. It provides a "simplification" over Saxe-Coburg-Gotha; Phillip has no reason to propose Edinburgh as an alternative in TTL (he might even be given a different British Dukedom/Title), and he wouldn't necessarily need to adopt his uncle's surname either.
Or if we go with the Battenberg > Mountbatten logic we can end up with Gluckston/Gluckstown :p

It would not really be an abbreviation considering that the full name of the royal house of Greece and Denmark is Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, Glücksburg is just an abbreviation because the name is so big
