Philippines: The Colony and the three renegade countries

Aside a little mistake respect to my TL about the Italian intervention in Japan (it was still an underground effort than an open fight as it appears here), it's an enjoyable update.

Instead of the Japanese, you should change them into the Spanish.
corrected, I missread your last update, thanks.;)

The War of Mindanao
On 1630, Sultan Kudarat of the Maguindanao sultanate did not like the situation of Mindanao beng divided between Carolia and Maguindanao so he decided that annexing Carolia would be a good thing and it would restore the people of Carolia to the true faith.

Sultan Kudarat and Sultan Abdul of Sulu started a war against the Spanish in Carolia on 1631.
The war erupted on the borders of Carolia and Maguindanao and the people of Carolia instead supported the Spanish colonizers because a majority of the people of Carolia are settled by the Spanish into Carolia from Visayas and the most of the native people of Carolia which are the Manobos did not convert although the Butuanons did convert, so an expulsion would be needed if Sultan Kudarat would be able to conquer Carolia.

Since at this point in time the Irrayans did not want anything to do with Nueva Castilla, the cause of Sultan Kudarat is weak and defeated easily that Sultan Kudarat was forced to sue peace with the Spanish administrators of Carolia, the same was done by Abdul of Sulu.

In this time, Palawan's/Paragoa's trade with China was booming, however, the route of the Manila Galleons was hard to navigate because the Italians who are hostile to the Spanish having shops in Irraya and the other renegade countries are an obstacle to the Galleons themselves and also because the Irrayan raiders are now looting the galleons themselves.

The loss of Sabah was hard for Brunei and Sabah at this point is mostly Christian now and now named as Nueva Aragon, this is also a booming colony with Christian Converts and in the later decades Chinese refugees from Qing that also had migrated to Nueva Aragon as well.

The Pirates and Gold
Due to Mandaya's politics the relations between the Irrayans and the Italians soured, however the trade of Irraya with the Italians continued, Mandaya invited the Chams who were devastated by the Vietnamese invasions and raids which made Irraya more islamized, Yummo told his father Mandaya to improve the relationship with the .Italians, the ministers who defacto ruled Irraya told that as well to Mandaya. On 1665, Yummo rose to the throne of Irraya which restored the better relationship of Irraya with Italy, Yummo had many sons from his Korean wife, Lee Hana, a Joseon Princess which also established a link between Joseon and Irraya and at this time the gold was discovered in Irraya, in the area where the raiders came from, Irraya would use this gold to exchange for firearms from Italy and it also went to Joseon due to the ties of Joseon to Irraya in order to fund it's defense from the Japanese pirates who infest the Joseon's shores.
In the meantime in Tapanga the Italians are starting to advance and make trading ports in Tapanga which made the Kingdom of Middag to entertain the Italians more, Tapanga is not really united and the Kingdom of Middag has a small territory in Tapanga and that caused the Italians to exploit the situation and use that as a base to help the Southern Ming against the Northern Chinese dynasty and also for the Italians to use it as a hub of commerce with the Kyushu Kingdom, the Southern Chinese Kingdom, Irraya and the Tokugawa Shogunate and due to that the trade prospered more and more.
In the same time, the Colony of the Philippines, now with weak ties with the Spanish due to the Spanish being blocked by the Italians and the Irrayan raiders. The sinister plot of the Dutch is being planned, and the plot is to annex the Spanish East Indies to the Dutch colonial empire and make it a part of the Dutch East Indies but rather the Italians are the strongest in the East Indies..however the Filipino Priests remain loyal to the Spanish.
In the winter of 1667-1668 , the Dutch were able to occupy Manila with the help of Irrayan troops that secretly helped them expel the Spanish from the Spanish East Indies and the Italian ships that defeated the Spanish and blocked them from accessing the Spanish East Indies.
The Dutch remained tolerant of Catholicism upon the initial years of occupation but later on in 1675, the Dutch put Protestant priests on the already Catholic Churches, this was not positively recieved in the Philippines and this caused revolt. The Three renegade countries of Irraya, Maguindanao and Sulu did nothing since for them they believe that the people of Filipinas are different from them and deserve this kind of treatment, however the country of Lesser Selurong was annilihated by the dutch invaders.
The Dutch East India Company were able to gain and utilize the rich gold mines of the formerly Spanish East Indies and the Spanish shamefully accepted their defeat the Dutch gain of the former Spanish East Indies on 1669, Guam also became a part of the Dutch East Indies as well.
The divisions of the Philippines remained the same under the dutch administration but the Protestantization of the former Spanish East Indies has now started.
The Italians welcomed the new change in the ownership of the Philippines and were happy that the pesky Spanish are now out of that archipelago and the Italians had started to make ports in the former Spanish East Indies as well. On 1673, Guam was given to the Italians as a token of apreciation of their help in the Dutch acquiring the Philippines.
Guam, Porto Elisabetta, HongKong and Tapanga became the new bases for the Italians on their trading empire in the East, however, the Dutch who now own the Philippines are also contending as well, however the Italians had already controled the trades and the trading hubs.
At this point the power landscape of the Maritime South East Asia is now different now that the Spanish are gone completely.

The Immediate and later Consequences of the loss of the Philippines from the Spanish

Due to the Spanish losing the Philippines in 1669 to the Dutch, the Philippines itself became influenced by the Dutch who now own the Philippines and the Italians who owned ports.

The major languages in Irraya, Sulu and Maguindanao, in Irraya, the language is Irrayan(Think of Ibanag and Kapampangan merged into one language) and Kaboloan/Ibaloy(in the mountainous parts of Kaboloan annexed by Irraya), the language of Sulu is Tausug and the language of Maguindanao is Maguindanao. In the Philippines now owned by the dutch the native languages in the colony Philippines are Samtoy, Kumintang, Bisayan and Butuanon, however the colonial language of the Philippines is Chavacano which is now transformed due to Italian and Dutch influence and due to that the old Chavacano language became the Ciavaccano language or Filipina Patois. the Dutch also settled Javanese settlers to their new colony the Philippines especially in the Manila area and the Italians also put Italian settlers in the Philippines in the Italian trading posts in the Colony of the Philippines causing the Chavacano language to evolve into the later Ciavaccano language causing the Colony Philippines now a part of the Dutch East Indies to become a mixed Italian-Dutch colony even if it is only ruled by the Dutch or ruled under the Netherlands.

The Dutch ruled Philippines and have resettled it with Muslims starting in the time of 1669 and the dutch have started to replace the catholic priests in the Philippines with Dutch protestant/calvinist priests causing the Philippines to transform into a Protestant-Muslim dominated region from a Catholic one.

On the early part of the Philippines protestantization the Catholics rebelled against the Dutch but the rebellions are small because most of the people of the Philippines felt liberated from the abusive friars that abused their powers and the people loved the new dutch priests because the new dutch priests did not abuse their power and it is permitted for the priests to marry so many men in the Philippines were able to be priests as well after the Dutch seizure of the Philippines.

Draft for the next chapter, this is just a draft, this update would be completed after my current personal issue ends..

Yummo's reign
Due to Mandaya's politics the relations between the Irrayans and the Italians soured, however the trade of Irraya with the Italians continued, Mandaya invited the Chams who were devastated by the Vietnamese invasions and raids which made Irraya more islamized and aside from that it made the relationship between Irraya and the Champa statelets, Yummo told his father Mandaya to improve the relationship with the Italians, the ministers who defacto ruled Irraya told that as well to Mandaya. Yummo is a man of his early old age with his wife who is from Korea, Yummo rejoiced when the Philippines was gained by the dutch but things would be different now since the Dutch had started the protestantization of the Philippines, the Dutch would not care about the three renegade countries to make them protectorates under the yoke of the dutch, the Dutch will leave these three countries alone.

If Yummo married a Korean princess, is there a possibility that there's an indirect Sinicization of the Irrayan society as a whole? Well, I asked this about it because Joseon has an established relationship with China.

If Italians traded with the Irrayans, these traders came from what part of the Italian Peninsula? Genoa? Venice? Remember, in the 17th century, the Italian peninsula was divided among different states (though culturally, they consider themselves as such).

I sensed that some of the Dutch who invaded the rest of the archipelago are Roman Catholic themselves (especially those who came from the southern provinces)

That's it.

This thread is based on Brothers of Italy edited by RyuDrago in which the italian peninsula is united in the 16th century.

As AdrianodaTreviso said this TL is based on the Brothers of Italy TL....

Irraya was culturally sinicized by Japan at first so it was not a shock for them to ally with Joseon, at the begining Irraya was under Japanese influence then Irraya until Japan became Chaotic and was pulled into an alliance with Joseon but Islam is gaining ground on Irraya...Irraya as I envisioned first looks like Bali but now it is becoming like a mix of Bhutan and OTL Indonesia....I am wondering if I would turn Irraya to a First World or Third World country..

If Islam is gaining ground in Irraya, then the kingdom is a melting pot of cultures and religions (obviously).
By the way, I imagined that the Irrayan capital is patterned on Nara or Heian-kyo.
Pardon my ignorance, by the way, but what is the official script of the kingdom?

Yes, it is similar to Kyoto..

They use Baybayin/Alibata that evolved to adjust to the Irrayan language, which is called the Irrayan Script, which is currently unregulated and chaotic until a reform was made..

At this point the three countries are pleased that their old foe is gone and the one that owns the Colony philippines are the Dutch who does not even lift a finger on any of the three countries..

I forgot to say that Bannag is the native name of the Cagayan River, it is called as Bannag as well in OTL but in OTL it is known as the Cagayan River..

It will be a difficult road for Irraya..once the Japan is reunified.

First Half of Yummo's reign
Due to Mandaya's politics the relations between the Irrayans and the Italians soured, however the trade of Irraya with the Italians continued, Mandaya invited the Chams who were devastated by the Vietnamese invasions and raids which made Irraya more islamized and aside from that it made the relationship between Irraya and the Champa, Yummo told his father Mandaya to improve the relationship with the Italians, the ministers who defacto ruled Irraya told that as well to Mandaya. However, the towers did not deter the Wakou from attacking Joseon from time to time even if the coastal towns are heavily guarded, it just caused the gold from Irraya to be used up in the defense of Joseon, but Irraya got in exchange is the goods from Joseon, the Wakou dissapeared from the seas of Joseon completely on the 1700 which made the King of Joseon very happy.

Yummo is a man of his early old age with his wife who is from Korea, Yummo rejoiced when the Philippines was gained by the dutch and the Spanish King has given up on the Philippines completely but things would be different now since the Dutch had started the protestantization of the Philippines, the Dutch would not care about the three renegade countries to make them protectorates under the yoke of the dutch, the Dutch will leave these three countries alone. On 1672, Yummo devised a promulgation to reform the already chaotic Irrayan Script which is based on Kawi and its later incarnation in the Archipelago named Kulitan/Baybayin(Japan has Hentaigana, Irraya has an equivalent on this) which has irregular characters which causes frequent misunderstanding in the Kingdom in the written word, the reform was easily implemented in Irraya and the reform is introducing the proper Kawi script to Irraya, some of the gold that was discovered in the mountains of Irraya was used in improving the infrastructure in Irraya aside from being given to Joseon from time to time, the palaces of Irraya are remnicent to that of Japan, Korea, Bali and Java.

It was in this time when the Kakawin literature from Java became popular in Irraya due to the similarities of Irrayan to Javanese which enrichened the literature in Irraya, however, there are also ties with Joseon so Korean literature was also apreciated on Irraya, at this point in time the population in Irraya had swollen up to to 4 million and Sulu had 3 million people and Maguindanao had 4 million people just like Irraya, due to Irraya being very prosperous at this time the population just becomes more and more many that the cities start to be more congested although it is just on the Bannag river basin(Bannag is the longest river in Irraya) and Upper Pampanga river areas and the Upper Agno river areas, the towns surrounding did not just have more population and they are more into farming which feeds the populous towns of Irraya.
gold.jpg

it was due to the discovery of Gold and other precious materials in the Mountainous parts of Irraya on the mid 17th century and aside from being rich in Gold, the mountains of Irraya were rich in Iron which was traded to other countries, the Kingdom of Irraya continued to prosper and in the same time and for that reason Irraya became one of the remaining independent countries in the Maritime South East Asia and many people from the Malay world migrated to Irraya and also the birthrate of Irraya was high for a while making the population surge to 4 million due to the introduction of the crop of Potato to Irraya which made its population surge to high levels.

In the reign of Yummo the progress was realized because of Yummo being very open to change and also because of the alliance of Irraya to Joseon and due to Irraya being allied to Joseon, Joseon was open and still not isolated to the wh outside world but would it last a longer time but how about about Nippon which is now plagued with chaos, which was brought about by the end of the Tokugawa regime which brought Japan into Chaos for more than one century but it also changed the direction of the history of Japan, which is now divided into factions but it also meant that Irraya would be out of the Japanese sphere of influence until a certain time when Japan reunified and when Japan reunified they drained the natural resources of Irraya due to the Japanese companies that later entered Irraya when Japan reunified but at this point the Italian and the Joseon traders were more numerous in Irraya.

The Nueva Aragon, which is a part of the Philippines is now reconnected to the areas of Kalimantan which were under the Dutch and alot of Northern Chinese refugees migrated there, the religious background of the Philippines that after the Protestantization of the Philippines.

In the same time, Tapanga was also benefiting from what has happened to the Philippines which was seized by the Dutch, many areas of Tapanga became Italian ports due to the winning of the Dutch in the war against the Spanish and aside from that, Tapanga became a Chinese refugee area but it was not receptive because it had a higher population and the Kingdom of Middag which was the only Kingdom in Tapanga and it also became a trading hub which engages trade with Irraya, Ryukyu and Japan which is now in chaos because of what happened to the Tokugawa dynasty but Tapanga was not immuned to the colonial powers trying to abuse it compared to its surrounding countries.

New Developments
During the time of Yummo on 1680, the City of Irraya went on a huge construction which made Irraya a more prosperous city, the city had a huge shrine intended for Nanolay/Batala who is identified as Allah or God by the people that worship the Judeo-Christian faith and aside from that the Capital City of Irraya had a population of 600 thousand which made it a very much known area, the buildings of that area were remnicent of the ones made in Bali, Nepal and Japan and due to that Irraya was one of the known populous cities in Asia.
In the meantime, the Philippines or rather the new colony of the Dutch, which is now known as Filippijnen to the Dutch and new Administrative divisions were made for the Philippines, the Nueva Castilla Province is divided into sub-provices which are;

-Costa Nord/Costa Norte(NoordKust)[1]
-Macabebe
-Sambalia
-Manila
-Kumintang
-Bikol

In the same time the Visayas Province was divided into sub provinces as well
-Panay
-Sugbu
-Samar-Leyte
The Dutch were now able to exploit the mineral wealth of their newly acquired colony and this supplied the Dutch in their future wars and the welfare of their countries
[1] In OTL it is known as region 1

the Inertia
However, due to the Dutch invasion, the Netherlands became a rich country and were able to exploit the natural resources of the Philippine colony, the Country of Irraya decided not to interfere in the rule of the Dutch in the rest of the Island, the same happened to Sulu and Maguindanao, however, the population of Irraya has quite overflowed to the New Castile colony, the other part of the Island of Luzon.
Yummo's views are known to be very supportive of the change in Irraya and the influences of the cultural flow from Java to Irraya and he died on 1701, however the Maguindanao and Sulu have skirmishes on the borders against the Dutch due to disputed areas but Irraya had more peaceful relations with the Dutch..
However in the later rule of Yummo, the Kingdom of Irraya was not able to deflect the Wukou from Japan which were trying to loot the ships containing gold from Irraya which were smuggled to make more attacks at Joseon, the King of Irraya felt very powerless about that.
The successor of Yummo, Mandaya II was very cunning in his way of dealing with the Japanese pirates but he can't really repel the japanese pirates just push them out of the area of Irraya but they came back when the defenses were weakened so they decided to make ways to control the japanese pirates from trying to steal the gold given to Joseon and for that reason, the riches the acquired from Irraya caused the Wukou to be richer and try to establish colonies in Taiwan.

No doubt the Wukou will also discover Palau too. And no doubt the Wukou also infest the islands known IOTL as the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea.
