Philippine Campaign cancellation

Two questions:

1: Is it at all possible, now that the subs are revving up and Overlord is in the works, to cancel the Philippine campaign and send the Army troops earmarked for it to Europe instead, with a pledge of "no big action in the Pacific until Germany's defeated?"

2: Assuming some ASB does allow that, are the divisions sent to Europe just usable to held ease stress on the rest of the Army, or can a bolder, more spectacular amphibious assault that shortens the war be potentially conducted instead?

If you're going for more spectacular, I guess you could land in Norway at the same time. But actually shortening the war, not that I can see. The only benefit I can see to doing that would be maybe stopping Monty from coming up with Market Garden.

So you would allow the Japanese extra time to fortify the Philippines and other islands? Would not that cause many more American losses to the Japanese as they try to retake all the places Japan took?

I don't think they can get much more supplies and materials with American subs sinking the Japanese merchant fleet

Problem is, Allied logistics were already strained past the breaking point in the summer and fall of 1944.

If you send those million plus troops to ETO - especially if they're going to France - how will you supply them?

All else being equal a division in SHAEF required far fewer ton miles per day to support than the same TO&E in the Pacific. Question is will those early extra divisions lead to a working port captured earlier. If yes the logistics work imo

If you land them on the Scheldt Estuary early enough - by August - that could allow the opening of Antwerp early.

Otherwise, I struggle to think of anything else they could do to speed up port access.
