Philippa of Dampiere, Queen Consort of England

In 1294, Guy of Dampiere (Count of Flanders) arranged a marriage between his daughter Philippa and the ten-year-old Edward, Prince of Wales, in order to secure the aid of the English in their fight against French hegemony. In OTL, Philip IV of France imprisoned Guy, forced him to call off the marriage, and imprisoned Philippa in Paris until her death in 1306.

Now, WI - for whatever reason - Edward I of England had accepted at the time, and the marriage had gone ahead before Guy was captured by the French? And what if Philippa lives longer, long enough to see her husband become king?

Hmmm, sounds quite interesting. Maybe Edward I tells the Pope to forget about joining in the 8th Crusade, and instead sends his troops to Flanders. Not sure what happens now but we eventually see a consolidated Flanders which retains its independence (and maybe expands slightly) till the modern day.

How might this impact the fate of Burgundy?
