In 1430, Philip I died. He left no children to control the Duchy, so upon his death, his lands were added to that of Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy.

Let's assume that in TTL Philip (of Brabant) has a son. How much longer can Brabant survive as a Duchy, assuming that there is a solid line of heirs?

Forever, Brabant had a size, that it could survive as a small modern state.

At the border to France, Europe's Early Modern Age Agressors? ;)

Though I wonder if there is any way to let Brabant fall to Hesse... (The House of Hesse is a sideline, or well now, only line of the House of Brabant) :D

Actually, in the EARLY ( let's say the first 1/3 ) modern age ( which began in 1492), France was invaded much more often than the reverse.

In fact, the only french invasion I can think of in that time period are in the frame of the italian war. It's a bit difficult to call that agression without labelling Spain and HRE the same ( and papacy, and .... ).

In all the rest I can think of, it was Habsbourg invasion of France ( well, there was this english expedition also ), from one direction or another. Until France grew strong enough ( about during Richelieu's time, IIRC ) and the trend was reversed for a time, but that was no longer Early Modern Age. Unless I'm missing something...

There's much more chances that the wolf which chews on *brabant is Habsbourg and that brings it in line with OTL.

EDIT : again unless I'm missing something, this *brabant doesn't actually share any border with France, at least in the early middle age ( not completely sure after the 3 bishopric become France ) but is mostly surrounded by Habsbourg lands. Again not a very safe situation.
