Peugeot buys Chrysler LLC in 2009

In 2009, after the near-collapse of Chrysler, Fiat bought the American group. What if Peugeot group (PSA) buys Chrysler LLC instead? I think of the following: Dodge could be the entry-level brand, Peugeot and Chrysler could merge their brands (Chrysler in North America, Peugeot in the rest of the world), Citroen could be the high luxury brand (DS models, neo-retro models), Jeep still specializing in SUVs. Your thoughts dear members?

How would Pugeot market the relatively inexpensive (except for the displacement tax), Mercedes E Class sized Chrysler 300 with its optional 5.6-6.4 liter pushrod V8 and utterly un-Gallic bodyshape under its own brand in Europe? Wouldn't the Chrysler minivans in Europe cannibalize sales from the Pugeot 8 series, and uniting the platforms anger the unions in both France and Austria? How does one go about engineering a Citroen flagship for North America that won't be sneered at in France or laughed out of dealerships in North America? Badge Engineering can only go so far, even with excellent platforms underpinning the effort like the BMW Z4/Toyota Supra Mark V, or the Mazda Miata/Fiat Barchetta.

Peugeot will only have to replace these Mercedes platform models with new PSA platforms. The vans will be sold under the Peugeot label in the rest of the world and under the RAM label in North America. For Citroen flagship models in North America, Fiat has been successful in selling the 500.

Did you just say that the Fiat 500 and variants are the prestige equals of the Audi A/S8, the BMW 7 and 8 Series, the Mercedes S Class, or even merely the Lincoln Continental? They are tarted up, boutiqued econoboxes that only served to replace the P.T. Cruiser, adjusted for inflation. A Citroen based on existing PSA platforms trying to compete as a "Luxury Flagship" in America would be seen as the biggest luxury turkey since the Cadillac Cimarron! Even the Hyundai Genesis brand at least includes rear drive and optional V8s and/or Otto Cycle forced induction solutions over 350 HP in output.

And what front engine-rear drive only passenger car platforms does PSA-Citroen have to work with? Fiat Group at least has the Alfa Giulia/Stelvio and Maserati Ghibli and Quatroporte. Returning the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger and Magnum to front drive would destroy those models.
