Peter Hyams career never happens

There are a lot of potential butterflies there. Let's says Hyams never recover from the Peeper disaster in 1975, ruining his career forever.

Hyams 1978 Capricorn One had a noticeable influence on the Moon hoax.

In 1984 he tried, and failed, at the impossible - filming a sequel to Kubrick's 2001.

There's also the 1981 Outland space western with Sean Connery

I like 2010.

As a stand-alone film it is on a par with others of the genre such as The Abyss.

It is not in the same vein as 2001 but that is a good thing since that movie is self-indulgence run-amuck.

Kubrick was a good director at times but at others he was downright awful, "Eyes Wide Shut" I am looking at you.

I had not realised how many of Hyam's movies I like: Running Scared, The Presidio, Outland, Narrow Margin, 2010 and Timecop.

Several are, I admit, guilty pleasures but pleasures nonetheless.
