Peshwar Lancers Redux: India

Northwest Frontier: The British-Indian Army carried out a series of blows against those tribes that had crossed the border and killed and Robbed the people on the British-Indian Empire side. General Brook began the task of clearing the Khyber pass. One of the Units that was assisting him was the 5th Bengal Lancers. They were equipped with the new Mark Vi light tank having transition from horses to armored vehicles. One Squadron was equipped with a new armored car armed with a quick firing 15mm gun.

Ireland by 1938 had seen a lot of construction taking place. Unemployment in the country had reached a point that there was a need to bring in additional people to finish the construction of the many projects underway. Ireland's Army was heavily involved in construction projects and the Hawaiian Engineer Corporation had received several contracts from the Hawaiian Government and the Irish Government. HEC as it was know had been heavily involved in the construction of the trans-America Canal through the Central American Republic. It had also done work on restoration of coastlines and many big projects.

In the Capital a heated discussion was taking place between King/Emperor Edward VIII and the Prime Minister. The heated discussion was over the fact that Edward had asked Laurel to marry him. The fact that Laurel was a subject of another country was one of the factors and another was the fact that she was a Roman Catholic. The fact that she was partly of Polynesian ancestry was another problem for some. Edward's mother Mary like Laurel a great deal but felt that there was a difference that might cause trouble for the couple.
Laurel's father was an Hawaiian Duke and her late husband had known him for many years.

Edward VIII was not without his supporters in Parliament and even the Indian Congress Party had decided to throw its support to repealing the ban. It might be a bruising fight but it was something that he was willing to do. The Monarchy was in British India and had been for 68 years. Things were entirely different.
Winston Churchill, who considered himself a friend of the King was attempting to bridge the gap and see if something could be worked out. He also met wit Laurel to talk with her about the problem.

Winston had introduced an amendment to the settlement act which would correct the problem. The world had changed tremendously since it had been enacted and it was time that it was corrected to the reality of the world that they were living in. It was expected that at least 30 members of the Parliament would oppose the bill.

With the passage of the revised Settlement Bill by the Parliament things were now cleared for the King/Emperor to take an official trip to Hawaii to see what might be the answer to his question.

The Punitive expedition to the border region of the Northwest frontier appeared to have settled the problem. Word arrived that Russian Imperial forces had entered Persia. Prime Minister Nevile Chamberlain met with the Cabinet and decided to send a British Expeditionary Force to Persia under Lord Gort. It was to consist of 12 divisions organized into 4 corps. The Austro-German Empire had also agreed to dispatch a force of 6 divisions.

Is the amendment covering only Christian denominations, or does it cover the many faiths in the Angrezi Raj?
Keep it up, Chris!:)

For present it only covers the Christian Faith but The King/Emperor had pressed his friends in Parliament to look at making further changes to the Settlement Act. Prime Minister Chamberlain is not exactly happy with this action as he feels it may cause problems within the government and the party. This at a time when the country is facing a confrontation with the Russian Empire in Persia. General Gort and General Bernard Montgomery had arrived in Persia. General Montgomery is commanding the 5th British/Indian Infantry Division. General Alan Brook is scheduled to arrive with his division and more divisions are to go. General Richie will however remain on the Northwest territory watching Afghanistan.

The BEF in Persia was growing in strength and it already had had some run ins with Russian forces. The BEF had grown with the arrival of 2 more infantry divisions and the First Armored Division. General Gort was requesting that additional forces be dispatched as quick as possible. The British were training and equipping the Shah's Army to help maintain the security of the nation.
Austro-German Forces had laded in Lebanon and were moving to join their ally in Persia.

The BEF In Persia had now grown to 5 Motorized Infantry divisions and the 1st Armored Division. Six More divisions were in the process of preparing to move to Persia and 3 more divisions had landed but were being used as labor divisions. This divisions were not equipped for combat but were being used to construct depots, improve transportation ( both railroad and road) and organize supplies of food and munitions. It was estimated that in an emergancy there was enough small arms and artillery to create at least a Combat Brigade out of each division. General Gort had requested that additional small arms and artillery be sent so that the three divisions could be outfitted. Because of a shortage of the new Bren Light Machine gun production supplies of the older Lewis gun LMG had been sent.

BEF Persia: The British Expeditionary Force in Persia was growing. Word had arrived that another Corp of three Divisions was on the Way. General Montgomery's division had already engaged the Russians in a encounter. He had been reinforced with the 5th Hussars equipped with the new Cruiser tank. General Alan Brook was moving up with command of the corp and another division. The Persians had attached a Brigade of Horse Cavalry and an Infantry Brigade to the British force.
The RAF had used three air ships to bomb the Russian positions.

Austro-German Expeditionary Force: The Allied force had finally arrived in Persia. It consisted of 5 divisions. Two Panzer Divisions, 2 Panzer Grenadier Divisions and 1 Light Infantry Division. The Commander of this force was a newly promoted General, who had seen some action fighting on the frontier with the Ukraine. Erwin Rommel was his name and he seemed to know how to use tanks despite being and Infantry officer.

Together the Allies ( British-Indian Empire, Austro-German Empire and the Persian Empire) ppeared to have checked the Russian attempt ti invade Persia. But the question was would the two larger powers have to maintain a force in Persia to insure against another Russian attempt. The British did not want to have to maintain 12 plus divisions in Persia as it was a drain on the Empire's resources.
The two larger powers exchanged coded messages and they agreed to each maintain a force of at least 5 divisions for the next 6 months in Persia and then would revisit the question.

Sometimes it is necessary to make hard efforts like keeping those divisions in Persia to avoid an hostile power conquering it.

Lord Gort, Commander of the BEF sent a recommendation to the government to retain the entire force in Persia for at least the next two to three years. During this time the British Army would help to train and equip the Persian Imperial Army. Plans were to help train and equip a force of 6 Divisions plus another 6 Reserve divisions. Once the Persian force was up and ready Lord Gort believed that the BEF could be reduced to 6 divisions but not until the threat was reduced.
