Peshwar Lancers Redux: India

London: Churchill arrived in the former capital of the British Empire and was surprised at the progress that had been made. But he was even more surprised and pleased to be greeted by the former Hawaiian Prime Minister Ambassador Wilcox. The Ambassador explained that he was on temporary leave from his American post and was now acting in a special role for the Hawaiian Government. The Hawaiians had constructed a diplomatic/ Office complex which would free space that the British Military could use. The Complexes included the HQ of the Royal Hawaiian Army Medical Command Britain, Royal Hawaiian Army Engineer Group Britain, Royal Hawaiian Diplomatic Group Britain and several other private groups.

Winston's visit to Britain also saw him stop in France and meet with the French Emperor and the Premier. Then the British Prime Minister flew to Vienna and met with the new Kaiser of the Austro-German Empire and his Chancellor. Churchill stopped in Persia meeting with the Shah of Persia as well as the commander of the BEF and the Austro-German Commander Erwin Rommel.

Upon arriving back in British India the Imperial Prime Minister was informed by his wife that they were to dine in the palace as the diner guest of the Royal couple. Winston was hoping to have a quiet time at home but he knew that there was probably a reason why the King wanted him to come. He asked his wife how the young Queen was doing. She said that she appeared to be quite popular with the Indian people and most of the middle class but for some reason the nobility seemed unable to get over the fact that she was not British. The fact that she was Catholic and of half Polynesian Ancestry just seem to stick in their craw.
Churchill was annoyed as he knew that the Queens late father was one of three people responsible for the Anglo-Hawaiian Alliance. Her brother had become Prime Minister and her older broker Duke William Kamehameha was a Vice Admiral in the Royal Hawaiian Navy.

Thus Prime Minister Churchill and his wife dined with the Royal couple.
When the King/Emperor and the Prime Minister went into the library to discuss some things the ladies adjourned to another room for tea and a private talk of their ow.
The King then told the Prime Minister of his concerns. He wanted any slights to his wife to be stopped. He was pleased to report that his mother, the Dowager Queen and his wife seemed to have hit it off. Perhaps it was the fact that she was a doctor and was able to help with the problems that the Queen Mother had been having. She also seemed to hit it off with the Kings nieces Anne and Elizabeth, who were home visiting. They were both expected to leave for Great Britain to be with their parents.

Prime Ministers Office: The Director of MI-5 met with the Prime Minister to discuss the Spying that was being attempted by agents of the Rising Sun. He was asking the PM for additional funding. He reported that the agents were about to arrest an Indian member of Parliament and charge him with passing classified information to a foreign Power.
Latter that day MI-6 reported that its agents had worked with the Hawaiians and the Dutch to break up a spy ring based in the Netherlands East Indies. Evidence pointed to ties to the Rising Suns Embassy in Manila .

British Intelligence was divided into two separate Branches MI-5 which handle domestic matters and MI-6 which was responsible for gathering Intelligence beyond the borders of the Empire. MI-6 also had agents in members of the Commonwealth.
Currently MI=5 had arrested an Indian member of Parliament and he was charged with spying for the Empire of the Rising Sun. Several Japanese businessmen had been arrested trying to smuggle technology out of British India and to the home island.
MI-6 with British Military Intelligence arrested Captain Reginald Mathews, who was charged with passing military secrets to a foreign power for money.

Tibet: Major Henry M Rogers British Army was currently on assignment as the commander of a training unit in Tibet. After having defeated the Tibetan Army more than 40 years ago. British relations with Tibet had improved a great deal over the years. The current Dalai Lama had helped to improve things between both countries. The Tibetan Army had been rebuilt and reorganized. It was now well trained and cable of defending the nation from foreign threats. That threat was no longer felt to be British India but the Empire of the rising Sun or even the Imperial Russian Empire.
The Tibetans were armed with a Lee Enfield Rifle and the Lewis Light Machine gun. It also had Mountain guns and the 2 pdr anti-tank gun.

Tibet depended upon British India for protection from both the Russians and the Empire of the Rising Sun. Companies from India had managed to string the telephone and telegraph lines through a lot of the kingdom and had built roads to allow the flow of goods into this hidden Kingdom. Still there was not a vast amount of trade going on but there was research archeology was something that was drawing research teams from some of British India's Universities.

Britain's Foreign Minister met with the Ambassador of the Rising Sun and informed him that the government would not tolerate spying and attempts to subvert British-Indian Military officers. Two members of the Embassy were declared Persona non Granta and were ordered to leave the Empire. They were also told that they would not be allowed to enter any territory that was part of the Empire or Commonwealth.

Tibet: Major Rogers had created a special unit of Tibetan and British/Indian Troops. It was known as the Tibetan Scouts. It carried out intelligence missions into areas of China and Russia, as that was the only way of knowing what threat might be out there. In Northwestern China the Empire of the Rising Sun did not have control of. The result was the rise of Warlords some of whom had their own agenda and some who appeared to serve other masters, such as Imperial Russia.

A Patrol of the Anglo-Tibetan Scouts was currently across the border in Northwestern China. The region was a land not controlled currently by the Empire of the Rising Sun. It had Warlords, some of whom appeared to be in the pay of the Russians. Lt Montgomery was commanding a mixed force of Tibetans, Indians and some British. The men had worked together for some time and they knew that everyone could count on one another.

Northwest China: Lt Montgomery's 20 man patrol was busy trying to acquire information. The rules of engagement required him to avoid combat but if attacked he could fire in self defense. The Military High Command in India wanted to know what threat was possibly taking shape in this land so that plans could be made to respond to it. Without intelligence things could go horribly wrong. Nor would the Empire of the Rising Sun want a Russian Army operating in territories that it claimed.

Lt Montgomery made sure that he had made maps of the region just in case the British-Indian Government should ever have to operate in the area. His people also acquired information regarding who was supporting whom. The patrol gather information as to the weapons available to the parties. It also located information on any Empire of the Rising Sun forces as well as minerals available in the region.

Lt Montgomery and his men had acquired a lot of information and he had drawn a lot of maps. Information he had been told was as important had having the proper supplies for one troops. What one doesn't know can hurt one especially in such a rough world. After crossing into Siberia and observing work being done to improve the Trans Siberian railroad and a spur line heading to China he decided that it was time to return to Tibet. The Danger of being discovered now seemed to the Lt and Sgt Regee Khan to be rising as both had noticed steppped up Russian Patrols.
