The United States began an effort to land a man on the Moon before the end of President Reagan's first term. Former President Mosby was put in charge of the effort.

IMHO, I fear that the early seventies might be too early for the TTL technology (and lower populations and global economy) to mature enough to send people to the Moon. But with perseverance, it might be doable in the early TTL 1980's. In the meantime launch technology, communications and satellites can be developed more.

The developing of the technology to do a man landing on the moon seemed not to be there according to what former President Mosby told the President. Thus the goal had to be changed to a more long termed one. The NASA organization ,which was created by President Kennedy thus began to look at setting things in motion which might allow a Lunar landing in 10-12 years but in the meantime to test orbiting vehicles schuch as the Mercury Capsule and the Gemni Capsule, which was on the drawing board. NASA also had plans to send probes into space to gain additional knowledge.

President Reagan in an address to a joint session of Congress announced the Idea of doing something to insure that another event like The Fall would never happen to the Earth..He announced that the United States, Kingdom of Hawaii,Great Britain, Austria and the Empire of Brazil would each contribute to developing a plan to defend the Eath. The Terran Defense Initiative would take time and money and all five nation had pledged resources to it. The goal was to have something developed by 1992.

Preventing another Fall will be indeed a major concern for the overwhelming majority of governments and citizens.

President Reagan found that a lot of other countries were interested in doing something to help. Australia,Canada,New Zealand and South Africa all read out with an offer to assist. Austria got German Scientist involved in the project and France also offered both scientific assistance and money. Brazil got Neuva Granada to become involved with its observatory studying the heavens.

Mexico was attempting to convince the two parts of Mexico that had broken away from the country nearly 80 years ago to rejoin the country. The Mayan Republic rejected the idea as it was very happy not being part of Mexico. Its fellow break away neighbor however seemed to be unable to make up its mind whether to return or not. In 1930 20% favored rejoining the Mexican Nation and 25 years latter it had risen to 25%. By 1969 a corruption scandal in the Republic had since to return to Mexico vote rise to 35%

President Reagan's Offical re-election campaign had launched in October 1971. There were several Democrats seeking the Nomination but the President was very popular and likely to win a second term.

The Canadian Government reported that the population of Canada had increased to 20 million people. The Housing Minister Thomas Holmes reported that the nation was seeing a housing boom. The Halifax Shipyard was constructing the first of 6 destroyers for the Royal Canadian Navy.
President Reagan was expected to visit Ottawa as part of an effort to improve trade with its northern neighbor.

The Federal Government together with the State of NY funded the construction of the Vazanero Narrows Bridge connecting Staten Island with Long Island Construction was started in 1973 and would be completed by the fall of 1978. It marked the fourth Bridge that had been built in the region.
The Reagan Administration also spen money to ensure that the Salton Sea in southern California remained viable body of water.

In 1976 President Reagan announced that he would not seek a third term as President . Vice President Howard Baker was set to go as the heir to the Presidency. Senator George HW Bush of Texas announce that he would be running but most of the establishment moved to support the Vice President. Just days before New Hampshire Primary President Reagan through his support as did former President Moseby.

In 1978 the USAF and the USN began to receive the F-4 Phantom II Fighter. The USAF ordered 144 of the planes and the USN also ordered the same amount. In 1980 the F-4E was produced and the air Force purchased an additional 200 aircraft while the Navy added 100. The President was receiving a report from his scientific advisers regarding the threat posed to the nation by volcanoes and earthquakes. One thing that the Fall had done was to clear out the human population in the Yellowstone region. There was also a belief that a big quake was do in both Northen California and in the Los Angeles Region. The President had asked for recommendations regarding what to do and actions which could lessen or reduce the threat.

President Baker was very concern that quakes or Volcanic eruptions might create major problems. The end result Had been Federal legislation prohibiting construction within
36miles of the safe zones. There was a major court battle between the Federal Government and the State of California over an earthquake zone. The federal government won on the grounds that it was in the interest to protect the people from the threat. The eruption of Mount St Helen's caused considerable damage to the area in Washington only the fact
that the area had not been resettled after the Fall prevented a loss of life.
The Federal government recommended that no schools bee built close to the coast as a result of a study.

President Baker and Prime Minister Mackenzie met in Kingston ,Canada to discuss issues such as the St Lawrence River and environmental and trade issues. It was an attempt to deal with problems facing both countries.

As the 1988 election season approach President Baker wondered where had all the time gone. Seemed like only yesterday he had been a member of the House and then the Senate, Then Governor Ronald Reagan had asked him to be his running mate. Then he was elected President and now it was nearly over. Senator Fred Thompson was now a candidate for President as was George HW Bush and Governor Wilson of California
