The election was a Landslide for the National Conservative-Republican ticket of Longstreet-Palin >> The Nationalist took every state So in January 2009 Richard L Longstreet was sworn in as President. He vowed to have a new beginning and to forfill the promise of never another Fall event.

President Longstreet made his first foreign trip to Europe where he met with the European leaders starting with the British Prime Minister, He then flew to Brussels where he met with all of the Western Alliance members: Germany, Belgium, France, Netherlands, Austria.,Portugal,Czechoslovakia .Hungary, Norway, Denmark,Canada, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania. and Canada.

President Longstreet ordered a withdrawal of US military forces from Neuva Granada once the country was able to take care of itself. The National Assembly voted to convert
the country from a Republic to a Monarchy. President Longstreet preferred not to be drawn into the internal affairs of Neuva Granada.

Peru expressed an interest in buying new weapons to replace its outdated militarily hardware. It purchased 108 M-60A3 from the US and then paid an Hawaiian and Israeli company to upgrade the tanks.

The US was pushing the fuel cell for its automotive industry. Production had begun of some car models with the Fuel Cell technology. The new Mark Randolph engine had also been developed it was more efficient than the old internal combustion engines of the past. The President believed that the fuel cell technology would be closer to what Americans were used to but pollution was dropping.

President Longstreet was pushing the Automotive industry to adopt Fuel Cell technology. He was also pushing to overhaul the American Electric Grid and go with a new Nuclear technology that would nearly eliminate nuclear waste as a problem.

President Longstreet was determined that he would solve America's energy problem and forfill a promise to make sure that the Earth never had another Fall event.
In working with the Congress he wanted to totally overhaul the electric Grid. He had funded research which would present the US with new Nuclear energy without generating
massive amounts of Nuclear waste. The Fall had resulted in a lot of additional water . The Salton Sea was huge in Southern California.

President Longstreet moved ahead with his plans to modernize America's Electric Grid. He was pleased that the situation in South America was resolved as it was one less thing to have to deal with. He had plans to support the building of a dozen new Nuclear power plants which would generate no nuclear waste. He had also met with foreign leaders to push action on the promise to never allow another Fall type event to take place. He was also paying attention to the threat of a Super Volcano awaking.

The US government had approved the construction of ten new Nuclear power plants and the Congress had passed a 100 Billion dollar electric grid improvement package.The money would be spent over a 5 year period.

The modernization of the Electric Grid had moved to a new level. The President was also pushing the State of California to move ahead with action to improve the water level in the state

All in all President Longstreet was aggressively moving ahead with plans to improve the modernize the country. The Electric grid need to be updated and harden..The president was attempting to have the Federal Government together with the states and cities move on the project.
The President met with the Mexican leader to discuss drug problems.

President Longstreet made clear to the Mexican President that he wanted action taken by Mexico to eliminate the problem near the border But if Mexico continued to ignore the problem he would take action. The Defense Department was updating plans that existed and were last put into action by General Eisenhower.. The President ordered US forces along the Southern border to be increased to 6 US Army Divisions and a USMC Brigade.

The President after noting the failure of the Mexican government to restore order to the border region consulted with the Congressional leadership. He asked for a Congressional resolution authorizing the use of whatever forces necessary to restore order in the region and ensure the safety of the American people. The President upon the passing of the resolution ordered the mobilization of the National Guard and the call up of reservist.In 48 hours US Military forces struck along with b elements of the Drug enforcement Agency and the FBI. Sixteen US Army and Marine divisions moved against targets in Mexico. Gangs and corrupt officials were neutralized. Any Mexican force that fired upon the US troops soon realized that they made a big mistake.

The US forces surprised the Mexicans and conducted a series of massive thrust into Mexico. There was nothing that the Mexican Military or the Cartel had that could stop the Americans. Units of American Special Forces and DEA conducted early raids in the predawn hours using shock and awe to overwhelm the criminals. Some of the corrupt Mexican officals were arrested by the US law enforcemen officals along with evidence.

The US was now reaching what the goals had been set and the stop line. The Criminal organization had been crushed. The US was screening the Mexican police and Judicial set up removing any that had any hint of corruption.

In the United States there was some disagreement in the Government over what to do with the Northern Mexican States. There were three options: 1) Annex most of Northern Mexico making it US territory(President Longstreet felt that this would create more problems for both nations and tended to throw cold water on the Idea),2) Create the Federal Republic of Northern Mexico thus creating a buffer zone. This would require US aid and 3) Return the Northern States to Mexico.This would require the US to have faith that the Mexican Government would not fall back into the same pattern that created the need for US intervention in the First place.
The US Government was holding talks with Mexico in Cuba

The Government of Brazil and Neuva Granada together propose to send peace keepers to Mexico and they would take up positions along a line from the East Coast to the West Coast. The force would total about 60,000 including support personnel. Neuva Granada had now bought a lot of military equipment from the Empire of Brazil so it operated the same MBT as Brazil and Brazilian made artillery. This would allow the US to resume their force withdrawal from Northern Mexico.
The Confederation of Northern Mexico had with the assistance of the US built up a security force of 20,000 and had decided to convert that into a military force of 50,000.

The newly renamed Confederation of Sonora agreed to a final border adjustment with Mexico and then declared that it was independent. It requested to establish formal
diplomatic relations with the United States, Canada, Brazil, Neuva Granada. Britain Central American Republic, Mayan Confederation.

The United States together with Brazil and Neuva Granada would assist the Confederation in organizing a defense of its territory. Mexico recalled its ambassador to the US and Neuva Granada. The US supplied the Confederation with additional M-113 APCs and gave the country 108 M-60A3. Brazil supplied 54 155mm sp artillery pieces to equip the Confederations army.
