Keep it up, Chris!
Canada Governor General authorized work on restoring the railroad lines to the British Columbia border. The Canadians and the Hawaiian had carried out joint scientific missions to study the weather conditions.
In the 1890s American Companies began the long term project of reuniting the country. The Transcontinental railroad was restored by 1895 once again linking California with the East. The Railroad also allowed more moving of goods and materials to rebuild the country. Still a great part of the US was unpopulated. Settlements reappeared in Nebraska, Iowa, Southern Illinois, southern Indiana and Ohio and even Pennsylvania began to see the rebuilding of cities and factories. An series of outpost were built in New Yorks and New England. By 1895 the population of the rebuilt city of NY totaled 6,000.
It will take until somewhere in the second half of the XX century to reach the pre-fall population.
The City of New York would take a long time to be rebuilt. By the early 1890s it was more of a town. A lot of wreckage was being removed and dredging went on to open the port. Again it was slow going and was requiring the expenditure on Money. There was always projects that needed funding and the National Government just had to pick and choice which one to fund. The Navy needed a shipyard to build ships and as a result Ne York's Brooklyn Naval Yard was being cleaned up. The Hawaiian had done a survey of the American East Coast going as far North as Newfoundland. The Canadian Government granted the Hawaiians a base at the ruins of an old French Fortress dating back to the French and Indian wars.
Fort Louisburg was chosen as a site that could be rebuilt using a combination of materials present and stuff imported.
Fort Louisburg. The Ancient Fortress on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia was was the center Of Hawaiian and Canadia activity in Eastern Canada. The Hawaiians were maving machinery and equipment into the port and had made improvements to the building.
Fort Louisburg,Canada: The French Fortress which dated from the 1740 had seen a lot of construction work by a combination of Hawaiian and Canadia workers. There were a massive number of improvements as a massively improved heating systrm was installed. A modern Hospital was builts and workshps were constructed. The number of people grew as more Hawaiian Scietist, Hawaiian Military, Canadian Mitiltary, Government officals and citizens became part of a growing community. Ship repairs were undertaken and a field and hangers for airships were built by 1895 the population of the community was over 18,000. Work was undertaken to recover people that survivec in Eastern Canada and Maine. The base was a contact point with Iceland and Ireland. Expeditions during the 1890s sailed to Europe and charted the impact of the Fall on Iceland, Greenland British Isles, Irelan, Norway and Denmark.
Prime Minister Kamehameha paid a visit to the Hawaiian base at Fort Louisburg arriving by airship. He was the first foreign leader to visit the base and his visit showed how much he cared about the efforts of the Hawaiians and the Canadians. It was a big Morale booster. He listen to what the officials had to say and in a gathering attended by all he thanked everyone for their efforts on behalf of both Hawaii and the Canadian Government. He also stated that the information that had been acquired with regard to The Fall was helping the Scientist to better understand the impact and whether it was beginning to loosen its grip on the world.
The President of the United States met with the Canadian Prime Minister in San Francisco and discussed working on some joint Canadian-American Fall recovery projects and they also talked about getting together with the Hawaiians for a meeting after the Hawaiian Elections.
With improvements in the weather there was some construction in New York. The National government had begun to clear out the Port of New York of the wreckage from The Fall. There were some settlements in what had been the city but it was a long road that was being taken.
Teddy Roosevelt returned to NY to oversee some of the reconstruction. Piles of wreckage were being sorted through in an effort to clear the place.
America was spending a lot of time, money and effort attempting to rebuild the nation. By 1897 the Transcontinental Railroad lines had been restored and goods and people were able to travel. The Fall had created a great sea in the southeastern part of southern California.
The population of the United States would take decades or longer to recover from The Fall. There was very little in the way of Immigration and the earth's population had as a result of The Fall declined considerably. In addition there had been several wars which had really not helped matters in the US. In fact a lot of the territories and some states had little in the way of population. Teddy Roosevelt , who was Governor of New York had a survey done concerning the population of the state. . The largest population was concentrated in what was designated the New York Metropolitan area. There were 4 areas that had some reconstruction: Richmond on Staten Island population 250, Brooklyn population 750, Queens population 725 and Manhattan population 1,800. The Albany region had 450 and the rest of the stat 900. All of New England had a total population of4,000. This included Boston,Ma, Newport, RI, New London, CT.
Winters were beginning to become more bearable in the Northern United States and parts of Canada. The Great lakes seem to becoming less ice filled. Still there wasn't a rush by the population to move back north although the US government was now considering taking legislative action which might encourage it. There was some settlements in Ohio , Pennsylvania and Indiana. The Government was hoping to encourage an increase production of steel and an increase in the production of Food Trains were hauling rubble from NY to a site where it could be sorted through. It appeared that more of the new towns that comprised the Metropolitan region of New York would have park lands.
Experts now believed that it might take 50 to 100 years for the population of the United States to recover from the effect of The Fall. Immigration as a source of population growth was not a factor as there was very little of it. Europe had lost a lot of people and thus there was a lot of demand for workers. America had suffered from 2 civil wars, The Fall and another conflict with Mexico.
