Governor Reagan had managed to win the nomination for the Presidency and had gone on the defeat Hubert Humphrey in the General Election. The Former Republican Vice President had accepted the post of Secretary of State in the Reagan Administration. The President elect was not at all sure of the leader of Hawaii.

President Reagan intended to visit the Pacific Nations. He would be visiting Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, China and the Empire of the Rising Sun. The President intended to see if the new Hawaii Prime Minister was someone that he could work with. Still he intended to me with the leader of the opposition party in Hawaii.

President Reagan received a phone call from the new Hawaiian Prime Minister and they discussed the Philippines Problem. He was informed that Vice Admiral Christopher Kamehameha of the Royal Hawaiian Intelligence Agency would be coming to brief the President.

President Reagan was at his Residence in California when Vice Admiral Kamehameha arrived. The Admiral had met the President when he was governor of California and they thus knew one another.
The President said "I see that you traded in a business suit for a uniform". The Admiral laughed and said yes and I told my wife that once I rejoined the Navy I would be home regularly. For the next two hours they discussed the situation in the Philippines and what the US might be able to do to help.. They broke for Lunch and then the President was joined by the Director of the CIA, Secretary of Defense and Chairman of the joint Chiefs of Staff

The 1880s: The United States was in a state of Crisis. Most of the Federal Government had been wiped out by the Fall. The Army was the only force available to try to hold the country together. Much of the surviving population had to flee from the North to the south as the damage was massive and the coldest winter in hundreds of years was taking place.

In Canada the race was to reach the west coast and the possibility of safety. For many Canadians that would mean moving to Hawaii or more likely Australia until God would make it possible to return to Canada. Hawaiian ships were bringing supplies and taking back Machines and people. Still the race was one that no one knew if they could win. Trains were hauling people from the east and the weather had already made it impossible to go to Ontario. Each day it was growing shorter the amount of time and the distance they could go.

In Canada the Governor General now based in Vancouver declared Martial Law in an attempt to prevent the chaos from getting worse. Already it was impossible to get any further east than the border of British Columbia with its neighboring Providence. Communication with the East had all but ceased to exist.

The front appeared to shrink daily as the cold and snowy weather pushed everyone back toward the coast. Martial Law Proclamation by the governor and the wiliness to use deadly force had kept a bad situation from getting worse.
The Hawaiians were taking Canadians out of Vancouver to to Hawaii. There some could apply to legally enter the country but others made the decision to accept the offer of the Governor General of Australia and New Zealand to immigrate there.. Hawaii's population had more than double with the addition of other parts of Polynesia and the Marianas Islands.

The United States continued to see the population moving to get out of what was increasingly an arctic type climate. The Military was attempting to maintain order and insure the survival of the republic. Unfortunately there were forces working both within the country and in Next door Mexico to take advantage of conditions. In addition corruption and profiteering were something that would make things very difficult and lead to a need to use armed resistance to restore the Republic.

By the late 1880s North America was much change. A lot of states and territories in the United States were ghost lands as the population had fled to the south.. The American Army had been called back to deal with problems in the East and in states like Colorado and Texas. The Plains Indian Tribes had also moved to warmer climates and there were problems in the Arizona and New Mexico Territories. This would grow to be a threat to the Republic and yet it would also be something that would help to stop the invasion by Mexico

The 1880s in the United States would be remember as one in which Americans had to fight a second Civil War and a war against a foreign invasion from south of the border. The people of California ended up fighting the Mexican invaders without much help from the National Government. The Government of Hawaii did provide the Californians with Medical supplies and weapons. The Royal Hawaiian Navy prevented the Mexicans from carrying out any actions at sea.

The 1880s was a trig time for the United States it faced a wide number of challenges including fighting another Civil War but not over slavery but to prevent a corrupt President from selling out the nation. It fought a war against a foreign invader an a hostile environment. Finally it reach a real settlement with the Native peoples. By the 1890s America was united and beginning to recover from the lost decade. There were many heroes Teddy Roosevelt, Black Jack Pershing, former Confederate General James Longstreet to name just three.

With Stability once again returned to the United States a period of massive reconstruction began. The transcontinental railroad was being repaired so that California would once again be connected to the west. A treaty with the Indians in the Southwest also allowed a train line to move through Arizona into California. The reconstruction of the East began in late 1889 and would continue for the next fifty years.

With the 2nd Civil War over the Federal government and the states began the long and hard job of reconstruction. The trouble was getting Steel production up and running so that there would be steel available for so many things. James Longstreet was one of the leaders of the new government and he knew that the demand for building materials would be high. Ports had to be cleared of debris and rail lines rebuilt in all too many spots. It was critical that the rail lines to the west be restored so that resources might be brought from the west to feed the reconstruction of a nation. It was hoped that in 5 years repairs and new construction would have the railroad once again able to connect the nation. Washington,Oregon, Idaho, Montana, the Dakotas, Wisconsin, Minn.,Michigan were states and territories that were empty. New England and parts of other states were ghost lands.
