Peshawar Lancers Redux: Latin America

The Empire of Brazil had now deployed 2 Light Infantry divisions to the Central American Republic thus sealing off the flow of arms from Mexico and the two independent states on the border.
 
Brazil's Emperor wanted to show that Brazil was a responsible nation who took serious the regions problems The American Canal as the canal in the Central American Republic was called was the busiest in the region but Neuva Granada's Panama Canal stood ready to take over should anything happen. Still Brazil felt it was important that the Canal not be threaten. Hawaii was prepared to invest 250million Hawaiian dollars in improvements to the canal.
 
After 2 years of fighting the insurgency,the Central American Republic Forces had first contain and then slowly strangled the insurgency. Brazilian forces were reduced by 50% and then totally withdrawn by 1915. The Hawaiians retained some extra forces as they began work on Canal improvements. Elections were scheduled to take place in the CAR in June of 1916.
 
The Empire of Brazil had gained something as a result of its involvement in the troubles in the CAR. It had gained combat experience outside of the area immediately surrounding Brazil. This had shown the nations of Latin America that Brazil was a power to be not ignored. Brazil was glad that things had worked out well for both itself its ally Hawaii and the Central American Republic.
 
Brazil's Prestige had grown as a result of the Emperor's decision to join in the fight to save the CAR As a result Neuva Granada began to hold serious talks with its neighbor on a variety of topics. Argentina also began to hesitate to do anything that might cross the Brazilian government position.
 
Juan Pordayo was elected as the New President of the Central American Republic. He was a graduate of the University of Hawaii and had run two successful businesses . Serving in the Senate he had pushed a reform bill through to become law.
 
Brazil began work on its first Battleship,the Hawaiians were assisting Brazilian Companies with several important parts of the Construction. The Hawaiians had designed the 15 inch guns that would form the main battery as well as some of the engineering designs. Brazil was on its way to become a regional power as well as a key player in world affairs.
 
President Pordayo was proving to be a popular President. He pushed through reforms that improved the lives of the people of his country. He sought additional revenue from the canal to help fund important programs such as better access to health care,a National Social Security law and infrastructure improvements. He pressed for a new treaty regarding the canal and revenue sharing. Talks were held in the Central American Republic and Hawaii.
 
Brazil by 1917 had become more industrial than ever. The New Emperor had continued the policies established by his father to turn Brazil into a power capable of defending itself and providing a better life for its people. It had helped to re-establish Portugal.
 
The Central American Republic continued to improve in the post insurgency. Its new President had reassured the people. The people were seeing improvements in education and living standards. More people were employed and the number of people working in the Canal Zone rose.. Improvements to the canal were now being made providing a boost to the economy.
 
Brazil's Imperial family arrived in Vienna they were warmly greeted by the Austrian Foreign Ministry and by the Delegations from Hawaii, Spain, Britain and Portugal. Napoleon IV was on hand as was the Irish, Dutch, Belgian German and Italian Royals.
 
In Latin America Brazil had reached out to other countries in the region in an effort to prevent the cycle of war.. Serious talks had resulted and the danger of Peru being swallowed by Neuva Granada had disappeared. The Brazilian Foreign Ministry had been quite busy putting out fires. Brazil and Chile signed a number of agreements. Brazil came close to getting Argentina to drop all claims to the Falkland Islands but at the last minute they backed out of the argument to the dismay of Brazil.
 
The Hawaiian, Central American Republic and Empire of Brazil were in the midst of talks designed to improve trade between all three nations. It was said to be the first treat to bring all three nations within the same agreement
 
Brazil was becoming the lead power in South America. It had signed a trade deal with both Peru and Chile. A defense Treaty with Chile , which in effect marginalized Argentina. It finally reached a border agreement with Neuva Granada and began work on a Latin American Common Market. Brazil made it clear that this would be a trade agreement not a political one. Still The 20th Century was showing that Brazil was rapidly emerging as a major player.
