Prime Minister Richardson carried out an even handed approach to Latin America. He was much more considerate of the special relationship with Brazil than Mr Burns had been.

In Columbia a leader decided that now was the time to put the dreams of Simon Bolivar and Martin into practice. He used the chaos to move against his neighbors swallowing up Venezuela and Ecuador. He created a nation bigger than he had dream of and called it Neuva Granada. Meanwhile to the south Argentina also prepared to invade its much larger neighbor. But Brazil had already stated to reform itself. The Emperor had pulled the middle Class toward him with reforms and had also reformed the upper class by creating a nobility that stood to gain if it was loyal to him and his reforms. National Pride also played a part. He was intrigued by a comunication that he received from Hawaii's Charles Bishop seeking to trade with the empire.

The Brazilian Imperial Army Now showed the Argentinian invaders that they had greatly under estimated the ability of the Brazilians to respond. A Brazilian Cavalry Brigade carried out a thrust behind the Augie front lines and caused chaos. Brazil had received a shipment of Guns and rifles from the Hawaiians. This had allowed the Brazilian commander to equip his new forces with modern rifles rather than the old Musket conversions.

The Brazilians stunned the Argentinian forces and dealt them a serious defeat. Brazilian forces were on the march and it was a real possibility that Buenos Aires would fall to the well organized Brazilian Guard but the Emperor decided to show mercy, and he was not willing to risk his best troops and offered the Argentinean government a way out of the stupid war. They took it.

Chile, Peru and Bolivia had all clashed in what was termed The War of the Pacific and it appeared that a second rond might accour as Bolivia attempted to recover its coastal outlet to the Pacific. Brazil was attempting to strengthen its military and its industrial base.

While Brazil established close ties to Hawaii and the British Empire, Neuva Granda by the Middle of the 1880 began to establish a relationship with Hawaii and it moved to a position of being a counter weight to the Mexicans. Indeed the two countries were on a collision course.

Hawaii began to help train a much more professional military for the Central American Republic beginning in 1886. The Hawaiians established a military advisory group for the Central American Republic. A battalion of Hawaiian Army engineers began work on the canal. Nearly 9,000 Natives were hired by the American Canal Company to work on the project and it was expected that that number would grow every year.

The Government of Hawaii helped to wage an insurgency in Southern Mexico as payback for the interference by Mexico in the Central American Republic. The Insurgents were armed and trained by Hawaii and succeeded in gaining control of territory in Southern Mexico as much as 60 miles from the border with the Central American Republic. The Hawaiians trained the Central American Republics border force turning it from a poorly equipped and trained force with low Morale to one that was well trained and equipped with a high state of professional pride.
