Peshawar Lancers Redux: Kingdom of Hawaii Revised

Hawaii needed a new director of the Royal Hawaiian Intelligence Agency. There were a few people that were possible candidates for the position. Among them was Superintendent Peter Tongans head of the Royal Hawaiian Constabulary Intelligence Department. Captain Elizabeth Penola Deputy Commander of the Royal Hawaiian Navy's Intelligence Agency, Lt Colonel Willian Hen Royal Hawaiian Army Office of Army Intelligence, Janet Hays Senior staffer House Intelligence Committee.

The Prime Minister nominated Captain Elizabeth Penola RHN to be the new director of the Royal Hawaiian Intelligence Agency and recommended that she be promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral . The Prime Minister also appointed Lt Colonel William Hen RHA ar Deputy Director in charge of Operations.

With the crisis over the replacement of the Intelligence Director over the Prime Minister was meeting with her brother to discuss some of the problems that she was facing. The exPrime Minister was going back to the US to attend a meeting of the various board of directors of the Defense Businesses that the Foundation controlled.

The Prime Minister push through tax reform and lowered the taxes on the Hawaiian people. To prevent inflation from eating into everyones income the prime minister put and inflation kicker and to encourage savings people would be allowed to not pay taxes on the first $1,000.00 of interest.

Christopher G McNamara was currently the Chairman of the largest Hawaiian-American Defense Corporation. The company produced a variety of weapons for the Hawaiian Military. It was about to tackle the largest project the construction of a new strategic Bomber for the Royal Hawaiian Air Force. The Company had partnered with two other companies General Dynamics and Royal Hawaiian Aircraft Corporation to tackle the project. It would replace all of the B-47s as well as some other aircraft. Should the design be approved at least 50 aircraft would be built possibly as many as 100.

The Hawaiian Legislative body was now sending signals that it would no longer be funding large defense budgets. A conclusion was that Hawaii needed to work with others more. Thus there were no plans to go beyond four carriers Battle groups.

The House Armed Services was funding a review of the entire Hawaiian Military and would be issuing a Hawaiian Defense White Paper. It would look at the needs and current capacity of the Hawaiian Defense Establishment and try to come up with a strategy One thing was certain Hawaii lacked the Money and resources to continue down the road it had been on.

Brazil and Hawaii signed a Defense Co-operation Agreement aimed with helping both nations solve the increasingly costly weapons problem. Hawaii had signed several defense agreements with the United States

Hawaii's Second female Prime Minister was attempting to make a lot of reforms on the home front. She depended upon her National Security team to keep her from making a mistake on foreign Affairs but she wanted to carry out a series of reforms which would change the tax structure of the country. Energy was also something that she wanted to look at

Rear Admiral Jonas Johnson Royal Hawaii Navy announced his retirement from the Navy . He had decided that he could not accept the Policy being pushed by the Prime Minister. He announce that he would be running for a seat in the House.

Rear Admiral Johnson won a special election to fill a vacant seat in the House caused by the sudden death of that person from a heart attack The retired Rear Admiral asked to take a seat on the Armed Services Committee and he also served on the Budget Committee .

The retired Rear Admiral won his seat in the House and took a seat on the Armed Services Committee. He was assigned to the Naval subcommittee which over saw the Royal Hawaiian Navy> Representative Johnson then question some of the proposed reductions in ship construction. It soon became clear that the former Naval officer was leading a faction of the National Hawaiian Conservative Party that wanted changes in Foreign and Defense Policy.

The National Hawaiian Conservative Party was splintering as Rep Jonas Johnson now lead a faction of 29 party members. The result was a call to Christopher G McNamara who returned to Hawaii to try to head off a crisis. The former Prime Minister had a meeting and dinner with the former admiral and 5 other members . He listen to what they had to say and then it was time to have a family chat.

Mary Elizabeth found herself on the receiving end of a lecture by Christopher George. She was he pointed out well on her way to splitting the party and handing the next election to the Liberal party. She had gotten so tied up with domestic affairs and tax reform that she had alienated 30 members of the House. Vice Admiral William Kamehameha IV agreed that a lot of the members of the House that he dealt with were unhappy and the Navy was not feeling any love coming from the Prime Minister. The family made some suggestion and the former Prime Minister let it be know that if she wanted to stay as Prime Minister she better follow them.

Mary Elizabeth McNamara had listen to her older brother and decided that she would make some changes in her defense Policy positions. Her brother had warned her not to fracture the Party or she would lose the next election and be finished with politics as she would be blamed for the loss .

The Prime Minister Order a Defense Review which would look at the needs of the nation and recommend both a strategy and a guide as what would be bought> The Defense Review would have both Military and Defense experts from the Civilian side. The Experts were reexamining the purchase of a new bomber as to how many were really needed.

Mary Elizebeth was reading the first rough draft of the Hawaiian Defense Review and she decided that she would need a new Defense Secretary to handle the changes that were coming. She called her cousin Vice Admiral William Kamehameha IV to get his advice of possible choices and her brother was returning to Hawaii for a meeting of the Kamehameha Foundation so she would be able to talk with him.

Paul Toros was a former officer in the Royal Hawaiian Air Force. He had risen to the rank of Colonel and then had retired from the service after 15 years. He was an Air Force Academy graduate and a former pilot. He had attended the USAF staff school and the US Navy War College. He taught Military History at the Military Academy and was a consultant at the Royal Hawaiian Intelligence Agency. He was 48 years old married with 3 children.

Paul Toros was interviewed by the Prime Minister and her brother at the family's residence. The former Prime Minister asked some questions but allowed his sister too carry out the interview. He only interrupted when he thought there was something that needed to be covered. The Former Prime Minister gave a nod which indicated that he saw no problem with Mr Toros. She then asked him if he would be willing to accept the Position of Secretary of Defense and he said yes.

Hawaii's new Secretary of Defense was in view of the Defense White Paper recommending some changes in the structure of the Hawaiian Military. He was recommending a slower go with the new Bomber. Perhaps they might not buy as many of the bombers. He was also looking at giving the LHAs the ability to carry aircraft so that they might fill in for a carrier in a crisis. He wanted a lighter weight tank for the army that would be more transportable and less expensive but as capable.
