Peshawar Lancers Redux: Kingdom of Hawaii Revised

The Publishing of HAWAIIAN DAWN resulted i Christopher McNamara working on a second book with Admiral William Kamehameha IV on the establishment of the Royal Hawaiian Navy to the end of the 19th Century. The Admiral was a retired former Chief of Naval Operations and had access to all of the Royal Hawaiian Naval Records. Christopher McNamara would add his insight into the Political decisions made by the Prime Ministers.

In writing the 19th century history of the Royal Hawaiian Navy the two authors told the story of an emerging power and the challenges that it faced. Hawaii faced challenges that included not only training naval personnel but in getting the resources to build warships that would ensure the safety of Hawaii. The Hawaiian Government was willing to attempt to advance technology pushing the development of the electronic torpedo. Its Navy was shapped by former British, Confederate and US Naval officers and a member of the Royal Hawaiian Family was responsible for hiring the first commander of the CSS Huntley as an instructor at the Naval Academy.

Indeed it was clear that the small Royal Hawaiian Navy assumed the great burden of patrolling the Pacific waters and ensuring the safety of Merchant ships at a time when the Royal Navy was quite busy protecting the relocating of the British population to India, Australia and South Africa. Hawaii's shipyards were kept busy building ships, converting ships and trying to keep ahead of a troubled world.. From Vancouver came coal and Iron ore. Natural resources had to be imported. The Hawaiian government seized Whalers and converted them into ships capable of carrying cargo.

Indeed the Hawaiian Government and Merchant Marine was making an all out effort to evacuate the Canadian population that was fleeing from the approaching cold weather. Canadian trains were running day and ning in a race to evacuate the Canadian population. The Canadian government had moved west to Vancouver to attempt to maintain control. Th Canadian Army and Royal Northwest Mounted Police was maintaining control in the Greater Vancouver evacuation Zone. Hawaiian and Canadian ships took the people to Hawaii. The Hawaiians provided food and medicine and received much needed resources for Hawaii's Industries.
In the first 2 months 70,000 people were removed but the population grew even larger. It was estimated that by the time weather started to shut down trave from the East Vancouver s population exceeded 950,000.

Canada's population in 1878 was 4121000. They would have probably lost most of the population of New Brusnwick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland, when the tidal waves from meteor impacts hit the North Atlantic coast (this would mean at least several hundred thousand casualties :( ).

Wish that I had checke on the population of Canada but there have been problems with so many people still being home. Still the evacuation of Ontario and the western provinces of Canada would create a strain.

Christopher McNamara along with his wife and oldest daughter flew to the US to consult with MGM on the project which was refered to as The series. The former Prime Minister would be working with the script writers to insure that they would the facts right.

Christopher McNamara had been one of the group that had helped develop Operation Crusader's Shield. Hawaii, Britain, the United States had all worked together. But it wasn't until the Lunar Colony became a reality that the idea began to take real shape.

William McNamara was doing some research into the development of the Royal Hawaiian Navy and the connection with Australia and New Zealand. His uncle had done some work on the subject while serving on duty at the Naval HQ in Honolulu . William was a graduate student and had decided to look into the topic.

William McNamara went to the Kamehameha Estate to look at some of the family records of William and George Kamehameha as both had served as Prime Minister. He also wanted to look at the journals of Admiral William Kamehameha.
It became clear that while Hawaii was able to build warships the need for so much importation of ores and other things made it a problem. Thus a decision was made to seek an agreement with Australia which would allow the construction to be based in a country which had more resources to built them.

William McNamara found that there had been an unusual degree of cooperation between the two countries. With the Royal Hawaiian Navy aiding it the design and construction of warships for the Royal Australian Navy.

The Royal Hawaiian Navy had established an office in Melbourne near the shipyard to oversee the construction of any vessel in Australia. The office was still in existance in the 21st century.

While there was a lot of interest in the past the kingdom was preparing for a new election. William Reynolds was a rising star of the National Conservative Party and was likely to face Tiko Masuho of the Liberal Party.

With change taking place there was a question as to who might run for what many considered the Kamehameha seat. First held by the great William Kamehameha it had been held by either family members or those having a connection to the family. William K Douglas had announced that he would seek the Party's nomination for the seat. So far none of Christopher McNamara children had shown any interest But Admiral William Kamehameha V son William had suddenly decided to run. He had left the Navy after an injury and now decided to run for office.

Thus there would be a primary to determine the nominee of the National Conservatives. Mr Douglas had lived in the district for the past 7 years by Commander Kamehameha
had the family name and a lot of relatives who had served in political office.

In a primary William K Douglas managed to defeat Commander William Kamehameha with 50.1 % of the vote to Kamehameha's 49.9%. It was a stunning defeat for a man whose family had held the seat for decades.. The retired Navy Commander then went to work for the Royal Hawaiian Intelligence Agency taking a position in the Photo intelligence section of the Agency.

Polling in the Kingdom of Hawaii indicated a possible surge by the Liberal Democrat Party but one should not count out William Reynolds who ran in a district that had been Liberal Democrat controlled for decades and won. He then ran for re-election and won with 65% of the vote. The National Conservative leader had just taken over as Prime Minister and was seeing the Party through a rebuilding and revitalization.

The National election took place in Hawaii and the National Conservatives managed to win enough seats in the house to retain control of the government.. The National Conservatives won 254 seats and the Liberal Democrats 240 and the Democratic Social Union Party won 6.

Prime Minister Reynolds flew to China to meet with the Chinese President seeking to find a way to ease tensions between China and Japan. He also saw an opening for Hawaiian business caused by the withdrawal of Japan. His next stop would be Japan where he would have a discussion on trade and Security.
