Peshawar Lancers Redux: Kingdom of Hawaii Revised

Hawaii sent aid to the people of San Francisco. The Earthquake and the fires had created massive devastation . A detachment of Royal Hawaiian Army Engineers had arrived to help in the rescue and clearing of the city of rubble. The Prime Minister received photos of the destruction and he responded that it was like a war had taken place. He was on the phone to the American President offering what help Hawaii could give. It was clear that a lot of changes would have to be made in building to insure that the amount of destruction by any future quake would be reduced. This quake would provide Knowledge.

The Royal Hawaiian Naval Air Service began to lift critical supplies from Hawaii to an airfield near San Francisco. In addition the Hawaiian Prime Minister decided to go and see for himself the amount of Damage. In addition to his aids he brought the Minority leader. He wanted to make it clear that this was a humanitarian mission. One that the late Walter Gibson had helped to make back when the Fall had occurred. The Prime Minister was informed that President Roosevelt was in the area. The President Had ordered Federal troops into the area and Martial Law had been proclaimed.

Aerial Photo recon photography was in its infancy but the Hawaiians took pictures to see what things looked like.

Prime Minister Kamehameha met with his son William and informed him that he would not be running for re-election in 1911. Rear Admiral Kamehameha was now director of the Royal Hawaiian Intelligence Agency as well as being a lawyer. The admiral had talked with his brothers and sisters. Charles B was now the President of the Royal Bank of Hawaii and his younger brother George was expected to run for his fathers office, Their older sister was a doctor and the youngest daughter was married to a Naval officer.

Rep Christopher Wilcox chaired the research Committee on the Armed Services Committee. He was showing some ability to get things done and was considered by the Prime Minister as a future party leader. He promoted him to a deputy Prime Minister Position, one of only two. This indicated that he might well be in a position to run for the Ultimate leadership post of Prime Minister. George was expected to run for his father's seat in the house when his father retired.

What no one except the family knew is that the Prime Minister William Kamehameha was a writer. Under a pen name he had written 12 novels about a constable in the Royal Hawaiian Constabulary. Surprisingly they were quite popular.
Recently he had turned to working on a series of books on the history of Hawaii. The first book completed in 1906 was Walter Gibson and the Rise of the Kingdom of Hawaii. It had taken him nearly 5 years to write the book with the assistance of his youngest daughter. It was 580 pages long. It had resulted in his starting work on Charles Bishop Prime Minister. This book would cover his years as Hawaii's Second Prime Minister and the growing relationship with Britain.
Another Book was being written William Kamehameha Imperial Prime Minister. This books was a work not by the Prime Minister but by Admiral William Kamehameha II and His sister Mrs L Thomas, who was married to Captain Thomas of the Royal Hawaiian Navy.

The Hawaiian Royal Family would be traveling to the United States. The king had been planning this trip for some time. He was eager to see what his nation had helped to achieve in reconstruction. He would also address a joint session of Congress.

Deputy Prime Minister Peter Lee was handling things in Hawaii while the Prime Minister was on Vacation. He was surprised when the King and Queen left on a good will tour of the United States and Canada. The Crown Prince was still in Hawaii attending school and it did not appear that the country was in for any Crisis. The Director of the Royal Hawaiian Intelligence Agency Briefed the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and the Secretary of State on the rising problem in Eastern Europe.

Admiral Kamehameha II was being kept very busy with the Intelligence service but he had already spoken with the Secretary of the Navy and the Secretary of Defense to returning to the Regular Navy. He would be leaving his post as head of the Royal Hawaiian Intelligence Agency and would become the Vice Chief of Naval Operations in 1908 and in 1910 he would become Chief of Naval Operations,

Upon returning from vacation the Prime Minister had a meeting with all of the elected members of the house. He announced to them that he would be retiring earlier than he had planned. His doctor had informed him that he needed to take things easy and his wife had demanded that the time had come to retire. The Prime Minister had spoken with several of the possible candidates to replace him and all had decided to bow out in favor of Christopher Wilcox the young 27 year old Representative and son of General/ Ambassador Wilcox. The Prime Minister had informed the General , who had informed the Secretary of State that he would be retiring from the post of Ambassador to Italy and returning to Hawaii, of the choice of his son to lead the National Conservative Party.
Both parents were very pleased by the confidence shown by the Prime Minister in their son.
With the approval of the conference the Prime Minister and his replacement drove to the Palace to inform the King and Queen of the change. A special election was scheduled for 2 weeks for Williams seat. His son George was to run.

Rise of Christopher Wilcox
Hawaii's new Prime Minister was also its youngest. He was 27 had served briefly in the Army and was a graduate of the military Academy. His father was a very famous General and Ambassador who had seen construction projects in Central American and Ireland.
His son had sat on several key committees of the Hawaiian Legislature. While a strong supporter of the Military he would tear into wasted spending. He was also a close personal friend of the crown Prince and knew the Kamehameha family quite well.
He had come out of nowhere to gain the position of Prime Minister and was well liked by his party. He was respected by those in the Liberal Party that had come to know him as a man who was willing to listen to different points of view. He retained the Secretary of State that had served Prime Minister Kamehameha even though he was a one time Liberal Party leader.
