Peshawar Lancers Redux: Kingdom of Hawaii Revised

Prime Minister Charles B Kamehameha II introduced legislative proposals to fund technological advances. The government of Hawaii was prepared to fund an Hawaiian Computer company in an effort to spur more advances in technology. Hawaii was busy also funding new military technology. Research was beginning on the possibility of harnishing Nuclear energy as a power source for a new submarine.

There was a Meeting in the Prime Minister's Special Meeting room attending the Meeting were the Secretaries of State, Defense, Science Advisor to the Prime Minister, Chairman Lopaka, special Representatives from the University of Hawaii, Royal College of Hawaii, Special staff from Mr Lopaka's Agency and Reps from the Departments of Agriculture, Energy and Nuclear Research. The Meeting lasted for 6 hours and adjourned till the next day. Some decisions were reached concerning Hawaii and its role in developing a response. After two days of meetins a report was prepared and a furture meeting was held with Reps from the US, Great Britain, Canada, South Africa, Ireland, Germany Austria, France, Japan and Brazil.

Chairman Lopaka was attempting to push a technology revolution in order to prepare the world to be better able to deal with any future crisis like East Africa. The Airplane was still lagging in the WW1 period even though it was now the mid 1950s. He was trying to convince Hawaii, Britain, the US to push advances in technology. The Germans, Americans and Hawaiians had just begun to develop Helicopters. The problem was that it takes time and money to get all of these things done.

In 1954 Royal Hawaiian Airlines ordered fifteen of the Douglas DC-3 for its air liner and the newly formed Royal Hawaiian Air Force ordered another twelve of the planes

The Hawaiians had now also invested in several other American companies such as Grumman and Boeing. It had now increased its stock holding in Douglas Aircraft to 35% of the company.

Hawaii was moving to increase alternative power research and promotion of the growing of foodstuffs in special buildings in the event of another event such as the Fall. A major effort was being made to improve communications and pushing technologly which could be of great help..
The Hawaiian Department of Defense was working on developing Nuclear Power for its Submarines.

1955 Prime Minister Charles B Kamehameha II was rushed to the University of Hawaii Medical Center having suffered a heart attack. Mrs Thomas the Deputy Prime Minster was rushed to the Hospitalas her baby had decided that now was a good time to be born. Her Husband was the Acting Secretary of Defense and he was named by the National Conservative Majority as the Acting Prime Minister.

Acting Prime Minister William Thomas had no intention of ever seeking political office and if circumstances were not what they were he would be happy not to . His father had been an Admiral and he also had served in the navy. Politic however came from his mothers side of the family. She was the youngest sister of the great William Kamehameha.and William's wife also came from a political family. The strange thing was that she had charted a different path ending up in the National Conservative Party.
William knew his cousins but had never really got to know his famous Uncle . His mother was nearly 30 years younger than her brother and William had been born when his mom was 36.

The Acting Prime Minister had a meeting with Chairman Lapoka to both discuss issues and to seek his guidance, He had also decided to meet with his cousin Admiral William Kamehameha II. George W Kamehameha, who had served as Prime Minister tended to spend a lot of time in Ireland.

It appeared that the acting Prime Minister now submitted his resignation to the King . The King appointed Lt Commander Christopher Kamehameha RHN as the new Prime Minister. The officer was retired Admiral William Kamehameha II son. He was a Naval Officer and a Lawyer. He appointed Anthony Lapoka a fellow Law School Graduate as his chief legal advisor. This was the first time that an active duty Naval Officer had been appointed Prime Minister. The New Prime Minister pointed out to the three party leaders that the King did have the power but he expected that should his cousin be ruled as unable return that a new election would be held within 90 days.

Prime Minister Christopher Kamehameha had to appoint a new Secretary of Defense and after consulting with the Party leadership he announce d that retired General William Lakapo would be taking the job. He also announced several bills that would be acted on by the legislative body. He then four days latter held a press conference where the doctors for Charles B Kamehameha II were present to answer questions regarding the medical condition of the Prime Minister. Among the legal papers of the Prime Minister was a letter in which he resigned as Prime Minister should he be unable to perform the job.
The new Prime Minister announced that a new election would be held in 120 days and that he had been asked by the King to be a candidate. He also announced that the majority of the National Conservative Party had supported his nomination.

The new Prime Minister held several news conferences and was able to handle the reporters. Some said that it was like seeing his grandfather back in power. The young Prime Minister was charming and he was well trained to deal with threats. He visited his cousin in the Hospital but he was in no shape to offer advise. His Uncle George met with him and expressed concern. He believed that Christopher needed to win a seat in the house to show that he was a legitimate ruler. Christopher found himself running for the seat which had been held by his grandfather, Uncle and cousin. He quickly won the special election with 96% of the vote in his new home district.

Hawaii's newest Prime Minister in an address to the nation spoke of a need to meet possible new challenges for the future. He spoke of developing alternative sources of power and being ready to meet challenges for the future. He had already spoken to the Secretary of the Interior about Hawaii's Volcano problem and the need to be ready for any crisis. From the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of Energy he wanted work to begin on building a nuclear powered submarine and possible surface warships.
He wanted the cabinet to begin work on the reduction of the consumption of energy. Lets not waste any resources and recycle more of what we use.
He met with the head of the New Liberal Party and discussed ideas that might lead to co-operation.

Hawaii's new Prime Minister was know in the Navy as a many who got jobs done. While his Grandfather and several relatives had served as PM he had never had the desire, Like his father he had planned to be a professional Naval officer. Thus he was in a hurry to get things done in a timely manner. He would work with the Liberals without any problems but he also did not care for the Socialist Party.. It was is wife Kathleen that finally got him to see the light and work with the Party She had three children to take care of young Christopher (1951), Mary Kathleen (1952) and Mark Edward (1955).
