Peshawar Lancers Redux: Asia

General Tomoyuli Yamashita was an experienced officer. As a young officer he had fought in China against the Chinese and in the 1920s and 30s against a resurgent Russia. He had overseen the defense of Hainan Island and had commanded the Northen District in Japan. His selection was made by the Imperial Government as someone who would over come any obstacle to insure that Han forces did not trigger a war with the Republic of China. He removed any Imperial officer who he felt might sympathize with the Hands and disobey orders from the Emperor. His authority included all of the Han Protectorate,Manchuria, Hanian Island but not Formosa.

The Imperial Army's Military Police conduced a series of raids in Manchuria resulting it the Arrest of Chinese and Russian Marxist ,which were plotting attacks in Manchuria and Siberia. General Yamashita was alerted to the raids and the plot and ordered the Army on a heighten state of alert in Manchuria.

Because of tensions with the Han Protectorate the Republic of China purchased 12 second hand P-40B from the Royal Hawaiian Air Force and ordered 60 P-40Cs from the Hawaiian -American company Curtis Aviation

The P-40s bought by the Republic of China where shipped to the port in the Northern part of French Indochina and shipped by rail into China thus avoiding interception by the Imperial Navy.

Talks began in Hong Kong between the Republic of China and the Empire of the Rising Sun on border issues. Tokyo was determined to reach a diplomatic settlement that would defuse the issues that were causing tensions. The Republic of China was happy that the Han Protectorates Military had been reigned in but at the same time the return of a larger Imperial Military presence in the Han Protectorate and in Imperial Chinese territories was unsettling.

The Imperial Army Commander flew to Hainan Island to check the defenses of the island. The island had a large population of Japanese so there was serious concern in Tokyo to any threat to the island. The Republic of China wanted the island as it considered it
a threat to China's ports and part of any territory that must be returned if there was to be peace. The Empire of the Rising Sun felt that the 950,000 Japanese citizens which had been resettled on the island since the 1880s had a right to be there and the far out numbered the 100,000 Chinese on the island, The 38th Imperial Infantry Division (reinforced) garrisoned the Island.

The Empire of the Rising Sun granted limited Autonomy to Korea thus loosening its Iron grip on the Peninsula. The Empire of the Rising Sun signed a trade agreement with the Netherlands East Indies,Philippines and Thailand. It was also working on a new trade agreement with the US and Hawaii.

The Empire was now aware that something was happening in Russia. Imperial Intelligence was trying to find out if there was the possibility of any threat to the empire. The Diplomats were consulting with the British and Hawaiian Governments on this matter.

The Empire of the Rising Sun notified the countries that it had diplomatic relations with that henceforth it would be known as the Empire of Japan. The British, Hawaiian and American governments considered that that it just recognizing the reality.

The Emperor signed a declaration which granted the Koreans the right to elect a legislative body for Korea. It would elect a Prime Minister to run the region. It was a signal that Japan was moving toward a system which would allow non-Japanese citizens of the empire a say in how things were to be.

Not everyone in the Empire approved of the reforms being pushed at the direction of the Emperor. General Tojo lead a fraction which supported tight control of the Empire, especially the non Japanese citizens. As long as the Emperor was paying attention and well there was not much that could be done to stop the liberalization of the Empire

The Imperial Navy on the other hand totally supported the will of the Emperor. Admiral Yamamoto was about to retire from the Imperial Navy when the Emperor called upon him to serve as the newly created Minster of Defense. Thus he would have to take action against General Tojo and reign in the militants.

The Appointment of Admiral Yamamto as the Minister of Defense was a clear signal by the Emperor that he would not tolerate a move against the moderates. The Prime Minister of Korea presented his credinetals to the Emperor and he got a warm reception.
The Emperor was trying to tie parts of the Empire to Japan by loyalty instead of using an Iron Fist.

The Government of the Empire of Japan supported the US, British and Hawaiian Resolution in the Commonwealth of Nations. The Republic of China also supported the Resolution and offered to send 5,00 troops to support the US..

The Chinese Brigade saw action when Turkish forces attacked across the Border against the 1/5 USMC. The Chinese forces went into action in support of the Marines and helped to repel the attack and launched a counter attack. The Chinese Brigade occuppied the High ground and directed air attacks against Turkish formations.

The Chinese Brigade returned home to China from Kurdistan. The unit was allowed to keep the US supplied equipment. It was then used as a training Brigade for the Nationalist army thus helping to upgrade the entire army over a period of time.

In 1954 with more of the European population returning to Great Britain there was pressure to grant British India self Rule. The Anglo-Indian Population was 40 million while the Indian Population was 250 million. Thus on June 24,1954 the British Parliament in London Passed the Anglo-Indian Government Act. The act called for the establishment of a British-India Parliament which would pass laws governing the territory. It would elect its own Prime Minister but defense and Foreign Policy would remain under the British Government.

The New British India Parliament met in the Old Imperial Parliament Building. There were 580 Representatives. While it would seem that the Native Indian Population would dominate the Parliament that was not the case as they were divided among 7 different Native Political parties while the Anglo-Indians supported 1. The British -India Nationalist Party controlled 180 seats, Congress Party controlled 140,Bengal controlled 45,Peshawar controled 105, Hindu Freedom Party 45.IFP-25,Indian Conservative Alliance 40( Conservative Alliance was actually 2 parties tied together). Thus the British-India Nationalist Party was able to convince the Indian Conservative Alliance to join with it to form a Minority Government
