Persuade the Spanish to stay in the Visayas

How can the Spanish stay in the Visayas instead of move the capital to Manila. Why would the Spanish want to move somewhere else where the people are hostile to them. The Cebuanos were more loyal to the Spanish than the Tagalogs. Moving the capital to Manila is like the Spanish moving her capital to Barcelona because it is a rich port. It would also be like moving the capital of Mexico to Merida, Yucatan. Why did they risk such a move? There's a better location for the capital in Iloilo. I wonder what would happen to Cordillera if the capital was in the Visayas.

The Spanish goal was to trade with China, that is why they moved to Manila, the only way for the Spanish to stay in Visayas is for a Kingdom in the North to form in the same vein as the Maguindanao which prevents the Spanish to move to manila..

What needs to happen is for the Legaspi Expedition to be butterflied and delay the colonization let a Kingdom in the North to form in the same vein as Mindanao..the spanish ignored mindanao when they were colonizable..

I forgot to say, the nobles in the north were pro-spanish but the peasants were against.

@kasumigenx I think that central Philippines is a better location since it is more inland. Manila can get easily attacked. It would be easier to rule the country from central Philippines. I'm pretty sure that Tondo was just as hostile as Maguindanao

I'd say moving the capital to Manila was more like transferring from Havana to Tenochtitlan.

Manila was a much better port, a much more defensible place than Cebu which is easily attacked by Muslim pirates. Easier to get to China from there, farther from Muslim pirates after Sulayman's revolt.

kasumigenx is right here, you'll have to keep out the Spaniards from Manila for a while to keep Cebu the capital. Though a subjugation of the northern sultanates would be a priority for the Spaniards in the Philippines regardless.

I think the Spanish needs to conquer Bicol and the territories of Lakandula and Soliman which are Batangas, Calabarzon and Manila to secure trade with china but leave out Northern Luzon to the enemies of Lakandula and Soliman and make their enemies of Lakandula - the Kingdom of Selurong/Tondo(the rival kingdom and faction to Lakandula's Tondo) and Kaboloan/Pangasinan as allies (in this case the enemies of Lakandula cede out Tondo) and make non agression treaties with them like they did to Sulu.

The Kingdoms in Northern Luzon can convert to Christianity compared to Sulu which only flirted with it.

The Spanish only conquered Butuan in Mindanao I think they can repeat the Strategy in Luzon..

@kasumigenx What about the threat of Chinese pirates in Tondo? Remember Limahong?
The main reason why the Spanish allowed Limahong to go to Northern Luzon is that the area was not under spanish control at that time in this scenario with Northern Luzon states as Spanish ally, Limahong would not have that luxury he would flee or the Spanish would gradually defeat him..he landed in Northern Luzon in OTL but decided that Manila was a better target, so if he would still choose to go to Manila and be defeated by the Spanish..or flee..if he is defeated he will be sent to Ming as a criminal anyway.

Big stick diplomacy. They have few inaccurate thundersticks you have more accurate thundersticks and metal armor.
I think the Spanish can ignore the northern part of Luzon as the area is basically to barren to them which is also quite a net drain to them as well, I think if the spanish chose not to deal with the rulers of the area they want to annex they would have annexed it leaving behind the barren parts as vassals or independent like they did in mindanao..

Just deal with it OTL. Secure central luzon for growing food reasons, secure southern tagalog for logistics reasons, and finally go secure the north for cashcrop reasons.

The North was technically barren so keeping them as a vassal would work, Northern/Central Luzon is volcanic and prone to famines which makes it barren..

Central luzon is flatland and volcanic shit is actually great for growing crops. Well except for the erupting part.

The Spanish aim for the Philippines was trade with China the spanish can grow crops in the new world..

Actually, Southern Luzon was richer in the Prehispanic era, I think the best outcome for the people of Luzon is for the South to be slowly conquered by the Spanish while the North builds up its defenses and ally with the Dutch or Christianize themselves to be recognized like Timorese kingdoms did...
