Kendrick, Duke of Kent, is currently talking with his stepbrother, Edmund, heir to Edward "Longshanks". Once again, Edmund is in disfavor with their father and they are trying to come up with a way to change this. Kendrick suggests conquering a nation and giving the kingdom to their father. Edmund thinks this is a fine idea, but which one? They finally settle on Castile. Of course, there are two princesses in Castile. One, destined for the convent, and the other has been dubbed the "Ice Princess" because of all the suitors she has spurned. So the two of them make a wager. Kendrick wagers he can get the "Ice Princess" into his bed against one of the stallions in his stables, along with some gold. And so the wager has been set.
Isabeau, Princess of Castile, will miss her sister greatly once she enters the convent. Her father is holding a great banquet for her the night before she is due to leave. When Isabeau discovers the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Kent will be attending the banquet in place of their father, she is not happy. The Duke of Kent has quite a reputation. During the banquet, the Duke approaches her for a dance and kisses her in the middle of the floor. And so he begins his seduction, which Isabeau spurns. Even though she feels the beginning of desire for the man, she has decided never to marry after watching her father parade his mistresses in front of her mother. The next thing you know, the Prince of Wales declares war on Castile and her father appoints Isabeau as Queen-Regent. Well, the inevitable happens and her father ends up dead, killed by Edmund's hand.
Will Castile fall under the rule of Edward "Longshanks"? Even though she has resisted Kendrick so far, will Isabeau eventually give in to her desires and give Kendrick a child? What of the wager? Will Edmund or Kendrick win, at what price?
DESIRE'S PROMISE is a fast-paced medieval love story. Tracy Ranson has done a wonderful job of allowing us into her character's heads in this story. Even though Isabeau finds herself falling in love with her captor, she never forgets who she is, the conquered Queen of Castile, and never gives up on trying to return to her kingdom. Kendrick is a very strong-willed man and just doesn't know how to take Isabeau half the time. He's not used to dealing with a woman who says "no" and means it. Always used to getting what he wants, he finds himself having to work a lot to get Isabeau. The sparks are flying between these two from their very first meeting, and don't let up. If you enjoy a good medieval story filled with love and passion, you don't want to miss this one!
