Persian victory at Salamis? What are the effects of such?

Oh my, not many people are. I can`t completely say the world would be entirely be a `better place`but I can sure imply it.

I always liked the idea of an "against all odds" alliance of desperation by the Arab states and the European kingdoms if both of them were to be afraid of the Mongols setting up on their doorstep, maybe an ATL Mongol expansion into Central Europe and such to terrify them all and realizing that the Muslim heathens are a whole let better than the Mongols, who are infinitely worse.

The only thing that could do that, methinks, is a Mongol razing of Jerusalem to the ground, killing of all residents, including priests and Imams, and then destroying the Dome of the Rock. But by then they`ve already swept through most of the middle east.

Indeed, something absolutely terrifying that pisses off both... and sadly I don't think Baghdad would do any better (maybe... they'd even find a way to somehow make it worse) in such a monstrous conquest.

By then most of the Mongol damage is done, Iraq is destroyed, Central Asia is destroyed, the powerhouse of Iran will take a few decades to recover and even then will not come back to its old fertility and you would have to break Egypt to get Jerusalem, which then cripples the last Muslim powerhouse.

Doesn't it depend on how the Persians win? Salamis occurred partly because the Athenians tricked Persia into thinking they were defecting. If they did so, then an Athenian democracy might survive as a Persian vassal.

The problem is if the Persians beat the Athenians the Persians now have a large civilian population that staked it all on that battle. Many people will actually be dead because they volunteered to be rowers, as well. Persia will inherit a population of widows and children, which they could probably just settle anywhere they wanted to.
