Since 1651, the Persians, and Russians fought wars against each other for control in the Caucasus. But ever since 1722, the Persians lost more and more land in the Caucasus, and influence there.

The Treaty of Turkmenchay was a national failure for the Persians, losing a ton of Caucasian land, and in debt to Russia for money.

But what if Persia during the Crimean war, during British, and French entry, decided to join the Ottomans against the Russians to redo their "Persian Alsace-Lorraine" And reverse the treaty of Turkmenchay?

Could they succeed?

Persia's best bet is big foreign intervention. If Austria and Sweden get on board Britain will be looking to severely humble the Russians a big retrocession in the Caucasus is probably in order.

Persian Armies aren't too strong to be feared by Russia by 1850s. Yet, due to Russia fighting on all fronte already it makes their kob easy.

Now to the point of reversing the treaty. It is possible to reverse it. But there needs to be more countries in that fight. In OTL the allied forces failed to enforce gains due to lenght of the war and minimum gains. Unless Austria or Prussia intervenes, the Persians gain little or basically nothing.

There is little to gain and much to lose. Unlike Britain and France, Persia has to contend with a very-very angry Russian neighbor post-war. And they have seen the advances Russians made in Central Asia.

True. However it will gain the attention of Britain who would like as many useful sticks to poke the Russian Bear as possible.

I forget, but wasnt this the period where the Persians were cartoonified as "the harmless, necessary cat"? There was a pic of a cartoon in one of my high school history books where the British lion and the Russian bear are busy playing with a cat, and the lion or the bear says to the other something like: "i'll pat its head and you can pull its tail" and the cat's screeching that it doesn't like this idea at all.

Because if so, can Persia really make a difference? Would they send troops to the Crimea or just distract the Russians on their shared border? And how would the traditional enemy of Persia, the Ottomans react to them joining the fight?

I do personally (just based off your post) love the idea of the Persians transforming their institutions in the early days of the Crimean War, whilst everyone is fighting - allowing the kitty to become a lion.

Austria in our timeline did get into the war, but the Persians intervene after Britan and France declare war. I know their military isn't very good, but the Russians will underestimate the Persians due to the underpowered military. I'm not an expert on Persian history, but With Ottoman help, and the Russians have to fight against Britan and France, Persia will most likely due to military ineptness, not send as many soldiers, and deem Persia as the one who they have to send as little troops to as possible to threaten the stronger Ottomans, British, and French. Giving the Persians to throw everything at the Caucasus. Their goal would be to reverse the treaty imposed on them decades ago.

Russia hasn't conquered Turkestan yet, and Britan still sees Russia as an enemy, and Britan might change it's stance on Persia.

Persia won't make a big difference like Britan, France, Austria, and the Ottomans, but Persia isn't looking for the world in Russia, but to reverse the treaty that humiliated them.

The Ottomans might actually see Persian intervention as a way to possibly make an alliance with Persia against Russia. The Ottomans need as many enemies to Russia as possible right now, and Persia might be inclined to enter a secret defensive pact with the Ottomans as the Russians will be mad at a Persia poking the Bear. The Ottomans could help in a few ways to help the army, and infastructure, and the Persians, with this victory, might unite the Persian people into a period of industrialization, and modernization, considering the fact that now they have decided to put themselves on the local stage, they might seek industrialization as a way to defend the newfound territories.
