Perry lands in Shanghai Harbor?

Hey guys, first post here ^_^

Anyways, as the title says, WI Commodore Perry didn't land in Japan, but instead landed in China, demonstrating the superiority of western technology to Xianfeng? Admittedly, by then the Qing was definitely on the way out, and was in no shape to pull off a Meiji Restoration, but what would happen had, say, Perry landed right before the Taiping Rebellion, and demonstrated western superiority of arms to Xianfeng, impressing him enough that, with the added push from the Taiping Rebellion, he would begin modernizing the Qing?

He would have got court martialled for going to the wrong port. China was already semi open and it was Japan that the USA wanted to have a trade agereement with as well as permisison for its whalers to dock in Japanese ports for supplies.
