People's Crusade POD here folks: anyways the Byzantine Emperor Alexius warned Peter the Hermit not to engage the Turks and instead wait for the main body of crusader soldiers which were marching on their way when all thirty thousand were shipped across the Straits. Let's say Peter and his French counterpart Walter Sans-Avoir decide to take heed of Alexius' warning and retain better control over the soldiers already there and wait for reinforcements. Some (let's say maybe a quarter to one third of them) might ignore the advice and split off from the main crusader army to go fight the Turks, especially the German and Italian contingents under Rainald and some of the Frenchmen under Geoffrey Burrel. They capture a few Turkish towns and probably get massacred like in OTL.

The remainder remain in whatever's left of Byzantine Anatolia, probably causing trouble for the locals despite as much as Peter and Walter may attempt to restrain them. They ultimately meet up with the four crusader armies under Hugh of Vermandois, Godfrey, Raymond, and Bohemond. It basically gives the Crusaders a huge boost in manpower though at the same time there's ample opportunity for arguments and division among the Crusaders as to how to properly divide the conquered lands between one another and there's the matter of supplying food and other needed supplies which will become greater due to the larger armies. Feel free to think long and short term about this.
