Brazil was prospering and very quickly growing in almost all fields(economy, military, population, infrastructure...). It had the 5th largest navy in the world, 9200 miles of railways laid, an annual economic growth of 3.88% of it's economy(if it maintained such an economic growth, its GDP per capita would have reached that of western European countries), factories were springing all over the empire and it was admired internationally for it's civil and political rights.
WI, rather than remaining idle and believing that there is no danger during the attempted republican coup, he decides to act, and orders loyal troops to attack the rebels, who are defeated by the better equipped and numerically-superior loyal troops, their leaders are captured and summarily executed. The Brazilian republican movement is silenced and suffers a major blow.
Brazil, from then on, remains a monarchy(unless something else happens).
How does it affect Brazil itself? would it keep getting wealthier? would the Brazilian people today be more well-off? How does it affect international politics? Will we see a major Latin-American power in the form of Brazil? Does it try to achieve WMDs? How about involvement in the world wars? Would their involvement be more dramatic? What of power projection? will we see any attmpted Brazilian power-projeciton around the world?
Discuss.
