Peaceful Conquest(?)

Hey, so i was wondering if anyone knows of any scenarios where one country gained de facto control of another with less than say... 100 casualties. Because there are so many cases, i'm going to rule out any personal unions, other than that, anything is on the table. Extra points to the more creative. Also, the later it is in time = more points. Thanks. :)

Disclaimer, these 'points' are absolutely worthless.

I think there were quite a few deaths during Kosciusko's rebellion, so probably not.

Hmm... I say we count it. I'll say now that any casualties caused by the treaty/partition/annexation process can exceed 100. However any casualties that cause the treaty/partition/annexation may not. As, even if the gaining of de facto control is peaceful, i doubt everyone in the annexed country populace will be happy, and so there will be an uprising of some sort.

Oh yeah, Japan-Korea annexation treaty.

This is probably the closest one, although the process as a whole was gradual. Revolts in response to increasing Japanese influence occured before the annexation, namely the Imo Incident, Gapsin Coup, and the Donghak Peasant Movement. These incidents also caused the Japanese to tighten control over Korea, although it was not until the Chinese were defeated in 1895 and the Russians in 1905 that the Japanese finally managed to take the final steps in 1910.

Ironically, many officials went over to the Japanese side because they mistakenly thought that a personal union of sorts would occur, although they were quickly proven wrong.

- Texas Annexation (United States annexes Texas, 1845)
- Anschluss (Germany annexes Austria, 1938)
- Goa Annexation (India annexes Goa from Portugal, 1961)[1]

[1] Although this might not fit your criteria, as roughly 3,668 Portuguese soldiers were captured by India and thus are "casualties" in the classical sense.
